This is my official notice to the several conservatives around here who've told me privately that they're still reading posts here, but not posting anymore ... usually ending the posts with something like "Keep fighting the good fight".
I'm tired of believing I"m the only one around anymore who thinks like I do. So until you guys start speaking up again, and not leaving me to be the only conservative asshole around here, I'm done. I'm cooked, and i'm out. This board thread is officially a lefty circle jerk until you nimrods take your tails out from between your legs again and start posting again.

I'm not actually that great at jerking off with my left if this is officially becoming a circle jerk, so maybe I'm a bit more of a right wing asshole than I thought.
Then again, I'm not that crazy to yank someone else with left or right, so maybe I should pack it in as well.

I wish I could help you out Chris, but my posting days are hit and run anymore. I just got into a heated debated with a friend Friday who couldn’t believe I am voting for Bush. Of course, she had absolutely no clue about anything I brought up about Kerry, and I am finding a lot of that. People aren’t so much pro-Kerry as they are anti-Bush. Heck, even my lovergirl Liz is a Kerry supporter. She is lucky she is so damn fine, otherwise…………………..

Maybe Americans won't be forced into the same confrontation with the myths of the past until some similar shift in the world dynamic, such as the loss of wealth and this attendant cultural/political colonisation of the wider world in which America currently indulges....and with this loss of wealth, will there be a sense of dancing on our graves....or will there ALSO be the(to me)inevitable sense that 'Whoa, if America's fucked, obviously we're next'...as we're slapped and slapped and slapped again(X6 yet! Bravo) upside the head the way smaples so wishes? I think our interdependence alone, along with the U.S. being the establisher of many 'markets'(and attendant manufacturing/heavy industry) pretty much since WWII, means that if we're going down, alla ya's are ALSO going to suffer. Right on down the line. Which the EU is supposed to preclude as YOU attempt to circle your wagons...but THAT won't be there for you for quite awhile. Wish us our watery grave. Please. ~ NOR do we 'indulge' ourselves in 'cultural colonization' purposefully....I'd hope you'd realize that MUCH of the ubiquitousness is through sheer mass. Our physical size, our populousness IS going to have a proportional share of marketing of creative and equally UN-creative aspects of a huuuuge variety culture - MUCH of which should only very loosely be said to be 'culture' at ALL. So we're wired for self-promotion better than most, so fucking what. Add that to being intimately interconnected with the globe and whaddaya have?? Italy, France, Spain just shouldn't allow hip-hop and Walt Disney/Mickeymouse shit on their hallowed shores if it's so damned objectionable...but it's permeated much of the world through the miracle of mass communication...and guess what, someone likes it enough to promote these shitty products in Europe and Asia...and holy moly, someone non-elitist commoner IS paying for it. Or they wouldn't try. That this 'cultural colonization' is largely incidental should be pretty fucking obvious... ~ Or is this maybe about some uniform monolith of an American 'lifestyle' that we're aggressively exporting? With the immense variety here, choose of course to buy into the cheapest and most vapid, one which one thinks is our 'emblematic' representation...of say, the depth and reach of the Springer show. THAT would certainly work for at LEAST the Taliban, wouldn't it? ...and perhaps the French?

Good points, rockdoc. A very strong and convincing riposte - particularly on the incidental aspect of cultural invasion. I have more problem with the consciously unethical foreign policy, but then this is an eat or get eaten world I suppose.
Lets just remember that I was dangling something out there for contemplation, and I'm certainly NOT wishing any kind of economic crash on the US myself.

I have no desire to see America literally crumble and fall. However, whatever jllm says now, I read his original post more as a rebuke to America's official mythology of national innocence and rugged individualism -- and on that matter, I would love to see the mythology disintegrate. So many tropes of American mythology, in my opinion, prevent us from seeing structural inequities for what they really are - the myth of the self-made man, the melting pot, the land of boundless opportunity, the rags to riches American dream, the city on the hill (from Winthrop to Reagan!), the taming of nature and westward expansion, etc etc. Exposing the ideological subterfuge behind these myths isn't about destroying America or knocking it off its pedestal, it's about making it a more just and open place.
Cheers, M

Oh, come on now, Proud. There's a big difference between being a snobby, elitist liberal and a right-wing zealot. Oh right, you were just kidding.
