How can someone oppose the war and still believe he has complete respect and understanding for the life a soldier?

Well, I hate for it end this way but I believe this war is stupid, unnescesary and based on lies. While I'm not prepared to say he doesn't care about the lives of these soldiers, I will say he feels like his agenda is worth it. The reasons for this war have changed so many times but one thing there has never been is actual acheivable goal. I guess if you take his reasons at face value it's arguably justified. I don't and I think there's alot of good reasons to question his motives. I'm sorry if you can't respect that. Perhaps you misunderstood where I am lacking respect in your comments. My issue is with your saying that Bush (or any president for that matter) has " no problem sending our sons and daughters to war". To imply that ANY president would make such a flip decision is not deserving of respect IMO.

How can someone oppose the war and still believe he has complete respect and understanding for the life a soldier? I'm assuming that the "he" here is Bush? If that is correct ... a person who opposes the war can believe that by recognizing that we don't all agree on every issue, but that those who take views we do not agree with do not do so in a sinnister way.

Starting a war based on lies is a bit more then a difference of opinion.

Starting a war based on lies is a bit more then a difference of opinion. It was not a war based on fucking lies. THe people who make these claims on a regular basis can't even demonstrate the supposed lies. The one "lie" they were typically hanging their hat on, the yellow cake, was stated to in fact NOT be a lie by the 9/11 commission. Further, as I stated a couple of posts ago, the reason for going to war did not have nearly as much to do with the fucking "lies" of WMDs as it did countless other reasons. DED, I really enjoyed talking to you yesterday. I will not allow you to bring down my day today by behaving like you are. Good day.

I get the feeling you think I see Bush as some Bond villian or something. I think he feels like he's doing what needs to be done...if that's what your looking for.

i heard in england that there's a lot of hate for margaret thatcher now... dunno why. If that wasn't sarcasm, then I'd be happy to explain. There's always been a lot of hate for Thatcher. Even her landslide election victories were only achieved on 40% of the vote on (approx) 75% turnout. More people despised her than liked her even in her 'glory' days of the 80's while she was busy destroying the fabric of English society.

I see Chrisfan is still pulling her hissy-fit "I've lost all respect for you" routine if anyone ever questions little Dubya's motives, decency or integrity. Welcome to the club DED.

JLLM ... question the guy all you want. I don't care. I DO care when people get into these ludicrous monster portrayals of ANY president. For the record, I have no respect for people who make assinine accusations against Clinton, such as that he had Ron Brown and Vince Foster killed too.

That's fine. You don't have to think as I do. But I believe that arguing that ANY president has so little respect for human life is not deserving of respect. And if you're going to take people to task now for not continuing discussions with people and arguments they don't respect, then you'd better take Mary to task for nor refusal to engage in discussions with numbers on the old boards too.

Forget numbers. If I could be arsed then firstly I'd take Mary to task for totally ignoring me and any questions I've asked her for the last three months. Numbers insisted on playing endless games with those inbred Floridians. What d'you expect?

Hmmm here's a question to ponder. Put your thinking cap on Chris. If the war is not surrounded by lies, why is it a whole lot of the soldiers either totally disagree with the war and the president, or are in the dark and really have no idea why they're there, or what they're fighting for? Is it because they're being lied to..........or just because they're not being told the truth?
