Melon, forgive any typos ... my "absurd" meter is giong full throttle. You say that you're not blinded by ideology because you will listen to liberatarians? That sounds to me like a Episcopalian saying he's not blinded by hs religion, because h'ell listen to Lutherans. Whoo ... really going out on a limb of open-mindedness there! You say that you believe most of what you read about the left. Given the viewpoints you've expressed aruond here, I would assume that means that you aren't reading anything FROM the left. Why not? Are you not confident enoug hin what you believe in to think it wouldn't be threatened by hearing opposing viewpoints out? What would happen if you found out that they wreen't all that bad? what wuold happen if you discovered thatyou coud disagree, but understand and respect where they're coming from and STILL survive? My gosh does it sound like your'e creating a sheltered shetlered world for yourself! Whle I can understand that during a hurricane, I can't understand it in life. What exactly are you so afraid of? And how the hell can you declare a viewpoint to be satan if you won't even listen to that viewpiont FROM THESOURCE? ? Scary.

Sorry, I couldn't resist! ;D I had no idea bin Laden was upset at his still being free, the American occupation in Iraq being in shambles, and Al Queda recruitment being so high. I would have thought he'd enjoy such things. I guess he's learned the error of his ways and wants to see things cleaned up.

Melon, I was going to say some pretty harsh things about your last few posts, particularly about "the vision of the modern left comes from the devil," and your fear-stricken and hateful characterisation of the left in general. (How come no left wingers I've ever met would actually recognise the vision of the left that you're always painting on here, btw?)
But I can sense the more reasonable right wingers on this board squirming a little at some of your wilder assertions, and I don't imagine they represent widely held opinions. You sound increasingly like the deranged mirror to the crazed muslim fanatics we all condemn.

I agree with chrisfan. anyone can read about another side of the argument and form their opinions based on that. I could find a whole bunch of literature straight away that denounces the validity of the republicans...it doesn't mean that it's all necessarily true.
We are the strongest, most prosperous, and most blessed nation for that very reason, because of our country's foundation on Christian principles. That is my view anyway. When I look at a map of the United States I am convinced that we are being protected by God alone through the leadership that God designed and that hordes of demons coming from outside of our country and from within our country are doing all they can to destroy it. yeah, yeah, yeah. and the people who you consider demons, think that god is protecting their country and that they are the most powerful nation, etc etc etc etc. If Kerry gets voted in, would God have designed that too? How about the fact that america is a relatively new christian country? What if Britian was to go to war with america...they have been a christian country, based on christian values longer than america. So republican is god's way? What if another christian thinks democrat is gods way? What makes you so inherently right and correct and indisputable?
Anti-American bias is widespread because the U.S. is a Christian nation not true. britian and australia are christian countries, and they both have high levels of anti-americanism. I just don't get you, melon.

Melon, I must admit I made several attempts to respond yesterday, most of them said about the same thing JLLM did only with the harshness left in. I have changed my mind and decided that responding, even in a small way, is the right thing to do. You'll probably just use the fact that you've "pissed off" so many of us to tell yourself you're right anyway. People like you scare the hell out of me.

There have been several pieces posted around here talking about various soldiers and their families discussing their disagreement to disdain with the war in Iraq. I don't think I'm the only one who has believed that those are certainly part of the story, but not the entire story. I think this story shows another side and another attitude, which is equally important in acknowledging. From the NY Times:
After Losing Arm in Iraq, Army Reservist Wins Right to Re-enlist By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: September 12, 2004
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., Sept. 11 (AP) - An Army reservist who lost his right arm in a roadside bombing in Iraq has won the right to re-enlist.
On Thursday, the reservist, Sgt. Chuck Bartles, 26, took that oath in a ceremony at the Airborne and Special Operations Museum here in which he received a Bronze Star.
Advertisement "I've been in the military my whole adult life, and I really enjoy it," Sergeant Bartles said.
Sergeant Bartles was injured when a roadside bomb rocked his vehicle, spraying shrapnel. One soldier died and two others were injured. His right arm was shattered and had to be removed above the elbow.
Amputees are usually medically discharged from the Army with no questions asked, said Lt. Col. James Suriano, commander of the 418th Civil Affairs Battalion, the Belton, Mo.-based unit to which Sergeant Bartles belongs.
Instead, Sergeant Bartles twice appealed to a medical board at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Satisfied that he could perform his duties, they agreed to let him re-enlist.
Sergeant Bartles has been in the Reserves for eight years. He began in the Marines but switched to the Army three years ago so he could pursue language studies.
He started a Russian language course at Fort Bragg, N.C., in June, eight months after his injury and about two years after he joined the Army Reserves. Sergeant Bartles is taking courses in Russian and Eastern European studies at the University of Kansas at Lawrence and is scheduled to graduate in December.
He plans to attend law school, although he knows another deployment is likely.
"I don't know how soon it will come, maybe next year," he said. "I'll have time to graduate in December, but probably not enough time to finish law school."
He hoisted his prosthetic right arm into position with his left hand as Colonel Suriano administered the oath in his re-enlistment ceremony.
Colonel Suriano said Sergeant Bartles's positive attitude kept him going. The commander visited him in his hospital bed in Iraq the day after his amputation.
"He was already talking about learning how to shoot left-handed because he didn't want to miss the deer season," Colonel Suriano said.

"the tyrants and despots of the Middle East are pinning their hopes on Democratic challenger John Kerry to prevail. " - "Tyrants and despots", eh? Notice how this "journalist" did NOT say "Terrorists": that is because the TERRORISTS want BUSHIE BABY TO WIN.
And the TYRANTS and DESPOTS know that Kerry won't wade into & wage war upon them for subversive reasons.
"Take, for example, a recent article in the Egyptian Al-Ahram Weekly (August 12-18 issue) by Cairo University’s Prof. Hassan Nafaa. Bush, he wrote, is a “wild eyed zealot” and an “evil fanatic”, one whose “departure from the Oval Office will mark the beginning of the decline of the forces of extremism and the rise of the forces of moderation.”
A Kerry victory, Prof. Nafaa says, barely containing his glee, would mean that “US foreign policy will undergo a major shift that will ultimately impact positively on Washington's approach to the affairs of the Middle East.” In other words, a Kerry administration would be far more compliant as far as the Arabs are concerned."
What utter racist bullshit. Who is this Michael Freund, anyhow? In case anyone has forgotten, ALL "Arabs" are not the enemy. . . OR ARE THEY, hmmm???
"A June 17 article in the English-language Tehran Times entitled “Pity the Next US President” was even more critical, comparing Bush and his neo-conservative advisers to “neo-Nazis” who have created a “stinking heap of a mess” throughout the world. “Kerry,” the paper asserts, “is exactly what the US needs right now.”" -----> Are you terrified conservatives so paralyzed by fear that you won't even give proper Arabian citizens the benefit of having a wise and balanced opinion? As far as YA'LL are concerned -- they're ALL "terrorists", huh. What is it about terrorists that you don't get? They are a small faction of EXTREMISTS that are not representative of the majority of the Middle East. I swear to god, the guy who wrote this article and all his sympathizers seem no better than white-hood wearing KKK members rallying about for a major lynching. So much for "fair and balanced". And Jesus wept.
"That the prospect of a Kerry presidency is evoking so much enthusiasm in the terror capitals of Damascus, Ramallah and Tehran is reason enough for Americans, and especially American Jews, to think twice before supporting the Democratic candidate."
--WHY??? Does it not occur to this journalist that THE GOD DAMNED "TERROR CAPITALS" MIGHT WANT A FUCKING REPRIEVE FROM THE REIGN OF TERROR ERUPTING OUT FROM WITHIN THEIR OWN SUPERSTRUCTURE?
"Why, after all, would Yasser Arafat, Bashar Assad and the Ayatollahs want to see Kerry elected, if they didn’t have good reason to believe that he would go soft on terror?" -- Because, dipshit, did you ever stop for a second and think that maybe the truth is that instead, they rather are TERRIFIED of the notion that if BUSH were to win again, then his UNINTERRUPTED CAMPAIGN OF FANNING THE FLAMES OF TERROR HIGHER THAN THEY'VE EVER BEEN FANNED BEFORE will continue for another four straight years of corruption, murder, mayhem, and fucking hell on earth? No, he doesn't think this because all he can see through the narrow slits of his racist eyes is "a bunch of towelhead nations intent on spreading their campaign of terror throughout the modern world". Give me a fucking break.
"Nonetheless, it seems, a majority of American Jews continue to lean towards Kerry, as a recent poll by the National Jewish Democratic Council is said to have found. According to the survey, an astonishing 75 percent of US Jews back the Massachusetts Senator, while just 22 percent support Bush. " --- Oh, so this stupid fuckstick hates Jews too. Somebody crucify this bastard, please.
That's just my take on it. This country is becoming a raving pack of mob-mentality lynchers.

That David Limbaugh guy is no better. What an utter moronic waste of inbred, catatonic braincells. I could refute every last sentence of this dipshit's article if I had the time. Maybe later, but for now, I just feel sick. *rinses the leftover puke outta my mouth with some cool water*
