Of course, if your audience is neutral or sympathetic, then there's nowt wrong with some stormy fire and brimstone. But when seeking to influence the pro-establishment mind you have to tread gently.

Either LOBOTOMIZE ME so that I may join you, or face the music. PRESIDENT BUSH's policies are a 'shortcut' to lining corporate pockets & keeping the war economy going. At the expense of the very air we breathe. At the expense of our own sons and daughters, over one thousand of them thus far, and counting.
I cannot even BELIEVE that you don't hear what I'm saying. It stuns me how thick-headed you can be.
Just yesterday I rode my bicycle around City Creek Canyon and watched the sun set over Salt Lake City. It was beautiful, and gradually I found myself thinking along the existence of God. Pretty soon the revelation came to me, and I rushed home to write it down. If I hadn't left it there, I'd post it on JACkory's board for all to see. It is, in short, Proof-Positive of His necessary existence.
But You Don't Need Someone Like Me To PROVE To You That Your God Really Exists, Huh? You don't WANT to acknowledge my wild ass, wack views.
I have thought up an actual equation of sorts that practically proves His existence, but that wouldn't be GOOD ENOUGH for you -- you'd REFUTE my effort at siding with you, saying that "God is above proof, and can only be discovered through FAITH" or some such defensively mechanistic response to me.
In any case, I woke up this morning, in a sense, a renewed man, with a more focused sense of purpose. It is a tad too complicated for me to get into right here and now . . . but I thought I'd casually mention my experience of yesterday anyhow. I will let y'all know when my 2-page treatise on the Proof of the existence of God is up at JAC's site.

I tried but I can't. For my mind is one of sense and reason.

Pissin: "But I only did that to see what you guys would say... But I knew how uptight most of your are so I knew your reactions would be like that. Which is actually the funny part, you guys all exploding and "red carding" me, not the guy dying. Especially someone like strat who is a bigot and insensitive about gays."
"But it wasn't just for a reaction."
Jeez, make up your mind!
As a reminder for newbies or anyone who doesn't know, pretty much any type of dialogue goes on these boards, but posts should be appropriate to the thread on which they are posted. Making tasteless or inflammatory posts simply to draw attention and annoy for its own sake is troll behavior and will not be tolerated. We know that Pissin is always trying to test and push the envelope, hence the friendly notice to him yesterday. Apparently, he holds a grudge against me because I posted my feelings about gay "marriage" some time ago on this thread, and so he has judged me soley on my position on that one issue.
"Gallows" or "dark" humor may be entirely appropriate on any given thread - but there is no joke in posting a picture and noting a tragic death, and then simply laughing at it. Now, the old guy in Caddyshack shooting all those holes-in-one and laughing insanely about it during a thunderstorm - then getting struck by lightening - now, that's funny.
Chris: "If we believe that something like that is only posted for a reaction, and we all give it a reaction, then aren't we just encouraging such things to continue?
The difference here is that we don't have to tolerate it, and we won't.
Stratman asked about the hurricane's affects, which was what I came in to post about last night. I'll have to get to that later, though. Carry on with the CE discussions!

It was posted for a reaction, but the reason it was posted on this board was also because it was a current event. You guys need to keep up on these things as well as the election.
So you think it's funny when someone gets hit by lightning huh? And they get hurt, that's funny to you? I bet it wasn't funny to them.
strat 0, I was referring to stratman about being a bigot when it comes to gay marriage. I don't remember your stance. But if you feel the same way, well then fuck that just sucks man.

I don't think tht McCain is guided by principles nearly as much as he's guided by doing whatever he can to be portrayed to the country as the heroic guy who is fighting for what is "right". He's starting to remind me of Mr Rogers, constantly asking everyone to sit down and talk about their feelings. It's almost not even political for him ... it's like he's just obsessed with this "renegade" image.

My parents got their power and phones back last night, so they survived the hurricane VERY lucky. It's been strange watching the coverage for me. There's been a lot of coverage in the area where they live. In addition to that, we've got family and friends in the Pensacola and Gulf Shores areas, so I've spent a lot of time there too. I've been watching the coverage of this storm, not looking at the damage as much as looking to see what I recognize -- I sit there watching the video thinking "That's by the big purple octopus. Is the octopus still there? Damnit, look at that, the Floribama is GONE." It's a weird feeling.

Good to hear that your parents came through the storm okay, Chrisfan. It seems there was more damage in Florida's panhandle than there was in Alabama.

Good to hear that your parents came through the storm okay, Chrisfan. It seems there was more damage in Florida's panhandle than there was in Alabama. From what I've heard, it sounds like there was more severe damange on the Alabama coast, but more widespread damage in Florida. The area where the brunt of the storm came through is literally on the state line (still can't believe it wiped out the Floribama ... which is ON the line). The Florida side of that line is more populated, which is probably why it at least sounds like things were worse there. But the east side ofa hurricane is usually worse that the west side, which also explains the damage in Florida. My parents are far enough inland, that probably explains most of their luck. My dad went out once with a friend yesterday morning to see how things looked, but it was a quick trip to determine the Waffle House was still open, and that was about it. When they tried to get out later in the day to check on the friend's house, they were told they could not go out of my parent's neighborhood. So who knows how things are right around them along the coast.

"So you think it's funny when someone gets hit by lightning huh? And they get hurt, that's funny to you? I bet it wasn't funny to them."
Um, actually, the example I gave was a fictional character - but I guess you'd have to see the movie to get it.
So anyway, Ivan wasn't quite as terrible as he could have been. The poor souls in Granada had it much worse - lost some lives and a couple in Florida did too. But everybody took the evacuations seriously, so that helped a lot. We had one fatality in the state - a volounteer firefighter. Property damage was pretty heavy. Around here it was mostly from falling trees and flooding. Lots of trees down today and a million or so without power. Chainsaws are a-buzzing everywhere.
I was worried about trees - I have a couple dozen of different sizes, some huge, some spindly, many are 100 - 150 ft. They were swaying about 30 degrees, but I didn't lose any. Only one bough fell on the roof and across the deck and it wasn't big enough to do any damage. After it was pretty much all over around 7pm last night, my power went out and has been out since. I could have got out my inflatable kayak and chuted the creek behind my house yesterday. Today my little dam was still there, so I was pretty proud of that. I wonder how Melon faired.
