Oh hell yeah. I think Ken Mehlman will do a good job. If he was paying attention to the work Gillespie did (and I'm sure he was) he's got a great template to build on! Actually, he MAY be better. Gillespie's best attribute was that he had the perfect personallity to take on Terry McAuliffe. He was willing to get down and dirty, and had the right instinct to pull away just before things got too dirty, leaving Terry to make mud pies on his own. Mehlman has the great verbal/debating skills that Gillespie does, but has more experience in nationwide political strategy. Mehlman's sort of experience is probably more valuable to winning elections that Gillespie's experience, which is primarily lobbying. We're going from 1950s TV dad persona to computer nerd persona, but both work well in the role, IMO. |
