No. They'll be alright. They've got stingers in their oceans up north. And crocodiles. Tropical storms? Pffft.
Cairns is a beautiful place to visit though, I hope it doesn't get too battered.

First reports indicate heavy damage to the Great Barrier Reef. Larry is also a heavier category than cyclone Tracy which flattened Darwin in 1974. A third of Innisfail, a real nice little place about 100 K's south of Cairns is destroyed. No casualties, thank God as yet. Larry is moving westward and has been downgraded to a Category 2 but still could do a lot of damage.
Buildings can be replaced, I just hope the damage to the Reef is not too bad. Of course a natural disaster like that is part of the life cycle of the reef but it'll take hundreds of years to see it repaired to its natural glory. Totally fell in love with that place there whilst diving.

We had some pretty wild weather here last night. No damage here, but in the little town two miles away some houses lost their roofs and some big trees went down. We had a lot of wind, rain and lightening, and the power flickered as transformers blew.
There's a new and rather stupid trend here now to close the schools and government buildings whenever they forecast severe weather. So they sent them home at noon and the weather didn't get here til 1am last night. I don't see the logic in sending the kiddies from strong steel, concrete, and block buildings home to frame houses and mobile homes. Especially when the weather is 500 miles away.

We used to use schools and other government buildings as safe shelters for the public to go to if their shelter was not safe in severe weather. Now, we're supposed to believe those structures are unsafe? Sounds to me like nothing but a way to avoid liability!

This disaster of a mayoral election is STILL all over the news.
It's funny that Nagin has managed to turn it into such a racial issue when it's obviously not. The black citizens of New Orleans would vote for David fucking Duke before they would put Nagin back in office.
Statewide- judging from media, television, just general gossip- blacks consider Katrina a failure of Nagin, and whites consider it a failure of Blanco. No one here blames the feds at all.
It's also funny to me that Katrina probably hurt the reputation of Bush, but, statewide, Hurricane Katrina was a MASSIVE victory for the Republican party. We're not going to see any Democrats holding any major offices in this state for perhaps decades.

Ever see those new "Come back to Louisiana" advertisements (commercials) on the teli? Have see the same one running about 1/2 a dozen times now. Visitation must be abysmal right now. How did Mardi Gras turn out this year?

Well, guess they don't show those IN Louisiana.
Posted a Mardi Gras review a little ways back on this board, I think. It was fun, but the crowd wasn't what it was in the day.

Shreveport, on the other hand, is thriving because of all this. They're now the number 3 hotspot for the film industry in the U.S. They were already into a boom thanks to the casinos, and now the boardwalk they built, but the business they've been getting now is crazy. Baton Rouge is just a mess, but Shreveport is really coming out strong in all this.

I watch Nancy Grace regularly on CNN Headline News and am watching yet another arrest in the case of the beautiful blonde. I see Natalee's various aired video's: her hope, her life, her smile. How horrid and sad that someone could so viciously take the life of this beautiful girl.
Yeah Luke I resent this title.

Tonights "Nancy Grace" spent waaaay to much time on this purported "Duke" rape victim. I don't believe a word from the father or the aunt, or the "story." Whole thing stinks. Where's the frickin' victim's story? Smells like soemone's a-huntin' for money here!
