No surprise that I would be the first professing Christian to visit this board, eh? I agree with Adam, believe it or not, that "some Christians are f----ing stupid." I daresay MANY of them are.
Thorny said:
...its all about "avoiding potential badness" rather than embracing a spiritual positivity.
That is a sugar-coated deception if you ask me. An essential part of embracing something positive and pure is the "turning away", so to say, from the bad. Darkness and light can't have communion with one another. I don't see why that wouldn't be easy to understand. To embrace one you must forsake the other. The idea that you can give yourself to goodness without abandoning wickedness is wishful thinking. But the important thing is that you must do one before the other. A common misunderstanding of the Christian faith though is that you have to "clean up your act" to come to God. That's hogwash. That's like trying to jump off a cliff and fly. You can't do it. No, you don't have to quit doing anything to come to the Lord. You don't have to quit having unmarried sex, cursing, smoking pot or hell, even shooting herion to come to the Lord Jesus Christ. You come just as you are and let him love you, sin and all. If you don't let Him love you right there in your sin, how do you expect to get out of it? But then, why would you come to Him in the first place if you didn't believe you were in need of salvation. The amazing thing that I doubt anyone on this board has discovered is that once you let Him love you, you don't want to do those things any more. So in summing up, I'll quote my friend and mentor, Bob McLeod: " What you do is you receive the Lord Jesus and you sin all you want to.....but you don't want to any more."

one of the following things in your quote, Melon, doens't belong with the rest:
"You don't have to quit having unmarried sex, cursing, smoking pot, or even shooting herion to come to the Lord Jesus Christ.
my problem is that i fail to see what's "wicked" about most of the items in that list

Further proof that god is a woman...
She made the four seasons so women could have different fashions for each...
If god was a man we'd have only a regular season and then the playoffs !!
