I thought it was always cheap for talkshow-hosts to have digs at someone in a monologue so it was good for Letterman to back up and invite the guy. I'll never forgive O'Reilly for his poorly researched and wrong stereotyping of things to twist everything his way (Amsterdam, France), basically making cheap points on the expense of others. So to have someone confront him about that was good to see. Of course you could apply the same course to many commentators.
Has O'Reilly commented on this interview yet? Surely he'd go out and crucify Letterman? That's the kind of guy I suspect he is....

O'Reilly later said he wasn't mad at how the interview and he'd gladly go 'round with Letterman again. What seems odd to me is that with Letterman never having been very political why O'Reilly would act like he's proud to have stood his ground with him...even though I think Letterman came out looking better.
