Strat, if maarts won't consider, I highly recommend either Ken Holzman or DED, if only because DED is less contentious than either shin or I (and that is a good thing).

I'm not asking for tears Ken. Every now and then, I just feel like correcting all of the incorrect assumptions that are spoken for me.

Fuck, I started crying for Chrisfan the minute that post was made. If only I had checked back 5 minutes later, I wouldn't have wasted that hour just then.

Personally I like having opposing veiwpoints...doesn't mean I won't argue with them but I think we need them.

I come to CE to argue. Most of the time, the only person worth arguing with in CE is Chrisfan. The bitterness we feel toward each other is a product of the times, 's all. But apart from views in contentious things, I don't know Chrisfan from John Doe, so I don't hate her or wish her to go away. It's just a fucking web board.

I did, however, just type her name, so my post will probably be deleted soon. Read it while it's hot, kids.

I only drop by CE ever once in awhile to post some current event I read about, that I thought I'd share. Usually not even for feedback. . . just to spread the news.

Ken is only partially right. Yeah, it's only a webboard but the hurt dished out can be real.
Look, I don't mind being moderator around here if Chrisfan really wants to give that up. I can understand her desire to keep this particular part of the boards to the subject we're (supposed to be) discussing. There are so many other boards to.... But I always enjoyed the spontaneity of discussion wherever that happened. The fondest memories I have of RS is trailing with Scottsy over various boards tackling a variety of subjects. I fucking well miss that as there's virtually no one about when I log on in the evening. Which also means I can't jump in if a discussion between the northern Hemisphereans on these boards goes awry...
Outside of that I can only say that moderating a board doesn't make a whole lot of difference if all players don't display some sense of respect towards each other. That means not that we all should tippy-toe around each other but at least realise that you know what effect your post can have on someone before you hit the 'post reply'-button. I certainly can see the tongue-in-cheek-approach of many posters here but also the venom that can be applied. If I do get to be moderator here I'm not gonna referee every discussion nor will I delete anything outside anything against the rules set up by strat. I don't think that would be needed.
Finally; I'm really sad to see that several posters have expressed the desire to quit posting or at least not be a fully active part of this community here anymore.

The discussion of politics is taboo for this exact reason. Let me be completely frank:
I am no more of a fair participant in the CE board than Melon was; I see unbridled support for GW Bush as a terrible moral transgression. This makes my interactions with Chrisfan, Rocdoc, etc. somewhat limiting. It isn't a matter of personal hatred; I don't respect anyone's support of an ignorant, biased, warmongering idiot. In many ways, that makes me unqualified for American political discussion (as if that kind of thing happens anyway). At the same time, I don't expect anyone to toe the line or hold anything back. People can feel, think, and say whatever they want. But it should be understood that, when it comes to me, we're not simply dealing with a a difference in tax policy, per se. It is a matter of moral disdain. Take it for what it is.
The only way to beat the other side is to know how the other side thinks. So stick around, Chrisfan.

Fantastically said Maarts.
There is a huge difference between attacking a viewpoint, and attacking a person for holding that viewpoint. That difference has been lost - or ignored - around here.
