Your delusional doc. Sorry. You're every bit as much responsable for what happens between you and shin. Cringe away.

I mean, he gets along so well with everyone else, and he's so well respected! I could really learn from him if only I wasn't so continuously pissed off.

I agree but I still say there was no reason to delete Ken's thread. Even closing the boards for six months aould only be a temperary fix, within a month it'd be the same way it is now. Chrisfan has basically said it's no fun becuase she doesn't have any friends here much any more and I totally see how that would suck. There are those here who are just never going to be friendly towards her and no body here can make them...and regardless of the back story we can't hop in the way-back machine and make everything all better. Shin and Rocdoc are just never going to get along, no matter what name they have no matter how long a break they take as soon as they end up here at the same time it'll be the same shit. Both of them do it. So what do you do? Ban one of them? Both of them? Deal with it? Help me out here. What changes could we make that would that all better? That's the most extreme example that currently exist here but most of the bickering still comes from the same petty rivalery mindset. Chrisfan can pretend she's not part of it all she wants but she is. I am too. We all are. So what do we do? We try for a while until it breaks down again, like it does about once every other month and we have this exact conversation again. I don't want chrisfan to leave but I understand why she's thinking about it. If she leaves it's her choice, no one is forcing her out and the climate here hasn't changed except that there's less people to turn to when someone else is being a shithead. It's like being in a car for a long trip, you get sick of whoever you're in the car with eventually. We're sick of each other, pure and simple. The answer is we need some new blood, new voices. Let go find some. Wow - lots of incorrect assumptions in there. First off, I've never said, nor do I feel, that CE is not fun anymore because I don't have any "friends" here. I don't really enjoy CE anymore because I don't learn anything or gain anything anymore. We used to have good, indepth, well though out discussions about various issues. We didn't really come to agreement on most things, but got a good idea of how and why people thought as they do. Now, it's a bunch of "you suck" personal attacks, and declarations that various lines of thought are abolutely wrong and must be corrected. I enjoy Meet the Press and Special Report with Brit Hume much more than I enjoy The O'Reilly Factor and Crossfire (when it was on) because the first two shows explore issues respecting multiple points of view. The second two just throw a bunch of people in to yell at each other, and nothing gets accomplished. I've also not claimed that I'm not a part of it. I know I am. When attacked, I tend to strke back - often times harder than I was attacked. It doesn't do anything to help the situation, and I've never pretended that it does. And I"m not contemplating "going away". I did that once - it didn't last. I have just concluded that there's no sense in engaing on threads I no longer enjoy. So I don't. Quite honestly, I think that everyone around here does precisely the same thing. Sometimes it's noticed, sometimes it's not. How do we fix it? As I said, if people enjoy it like it is right now - DON'T! If the palce dies, then I think that Maarts is right. Perhaps peole should start thinking a bit more before hitting "post".

Different wording, same thing. I'm sorry for assuming you claimed no part, we can't fix anything if people won't admit they're part of the problem and I only meant "going away" from CE not the boards entirely.
I still see little difference in what you're complaining about and the way I got treated alot of the time back on the old CE boards. I see less people here but the attitudes are the same. I'm willing to make an effert though...I'd like to think I'm not one of the worse offenders, but we'd all like to think that I guess. If those who are the worse offenders won't admit it or make any effert we're still stuck right here, so we'll see.

Maarts and Ken: do you see moderator functions in the windows at CE? Because I tried to assign a moderator to a new board recently and it wouldn't work.

I love the fact that I don't, so I no longer have to worry about mistakenly editing a post when I mean to just quote it!!!!!

People keep talking about the conservative views that have gone away - Stratman, Melon, Rocdoc, Trutha ... and I'd add Jac. Am I the ony one who has noticed the drastic drop off in participation (on the CE threads) from liberal minded people such as Mary, JLLM and Drum? Given the drop off on BOTH sides, it seems to me the problem is the tone - not the views being expressed. This is fair enough. I think CE goes through cycles, and it's in a down cycle now. I can't say it's because there's no "new" news, there's a great deal in the world to discuss, from Iran's (to say nothing of India!) nuclear ambitions to the litany of accusations against the Bush administration of compromising constitutionalism, democracy, privacy, civil liberties, etc etc. But to some degree I think this all relates back to the old catch-all "War on Terror" and everyone's views have been stated umpteen-thousand times on that one, so all these conversations start to become redundant, and when the conversations become redundant, they get increasingly personal and nasty. Mostly, CE lately has just seemed really fucking immature. Whatever, that's fine, but it's just boring to me..... I'm sure I'll be back when a new and interesting topic for discussion arises. Cheers, M

And BTW, most of you guys know by now that a bunch of us used to have special "moderator-like super powers" over at RS.com, right? Ferdman had drafted more than a handful of long-time posters to help with keeping down on the trolling, etc. So when you'd see things all gone to hell, and then a half hour later it was all gone, it was often one of these senior posters, trying to do a little bit for the betterment of the boards. I actually mentioned it to Luke not long ago, and he had no idea. So I think it was still a secret to most people until, well, maybe just now. I'm not even sure I remember exactly who all was a part of that (I think I remember 5 of us--was that all?). Chatman had that whole thing set up so well, with everyone discussing issues via that email group, but then once he was gone the new group let it all go to hell.

Actually I agree with Mary, we have pretty immature lately but like she says sometimes it just doesn't seem worth it to go 'round the same ol circles again. Maybe that's the problem...some people think if you have nothing to say don't say anything and others think if you have nothing to say...make a joke. Neither is wrong but I see how one would annoy the other...especially when it's pretty damned appearent our sense of humors are very different at times.

The Mr. and Mrs. Mops, I think were part of that. I think Maarts was one, too. I was never invited... But I didn't ever really have a very high profile at the old RS.com. I really only frequented a handful of boards. I wish we could have gotten Ferdman over here before he vanished into the ether again. Man, it's an ultra wasteland over there - I don't even check it out any more, more than maybe once a month or something, just to see if anything significant has developed (and it never does - it just gets worse). Takes about 1 minute to determine that.

I'm precisely shin, am I? Never any wavering in the what 2 years you 'know' me? Sorry pal. It's your 'judgement''s that's for shit here...and with a set of worthless words which you pass off as 'opinion'.
You're in no way fit to judge delusion here, DED...this elder statesman role you're assuming here works only because 90% of who you're talking to are your philosophical peers.
Someone not going your selfsame 'road' gets this fucking hollow-as-hell instantaneous derision the rest of you fling....
