"Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks" Truly one of my most cherished ambient works ever produced. If you want to experience music that is the essence of outer space distilled -- look no further than this 5-star classic recording. As maarts mentioned, it was the basis for the music used in "For All Mankind", a movie about the Apollo missions which aims to take the viewer on a trip of what it's like to visit the moon, from an Astronaut's perspective. The APOLLO album depicted above features one of my ALL TIME favorite Eno songs: "Always Returning". It is a rather simplistic little piece, a melody which loops in on itself forever, yet somehow never gets tiresome as it continually ascends through variant oscillations of the theme. Simply the loveliest little song, and for some reason I can't really put into words, evocative of the most painfully nostalgic emotion I've experienced listening to music. Eno has another song that does the exact same thing, when I listen to it: "By This River", which features softly sung lyrics, from his album Before And After Science. By This River is my favorite Eno song ever written. It's melody & simply sung verses can be found haunting my soul until the end of my days. It is the "definitive" Eno song for me, I guess cuz it strikes such an exquisite and reflective mood. It is at once the most relaxing, and saddest of songs I've ever had the pleasure to listen to, and at the same time, it evokes a feeling of peace with such perfection, that I cannot imagine ever hearing a song that could out-do it.

Been listening to ANOTHER DAY ON EARTH more, and the assertion that it is genuinely a masterpiece for the ages keeps sinking in deeper and deeper. Truly the "Album Of The Year" if there is one.

The one track on Apollo that always has been a staplemark in my musical appreciation is An Ending/Ascent. This is the most gorgeous of melodies, like an unending matra. At times I played it underneath the scene from 2001 A Space Odyssey where the space station's rolling away from earth (and Deep Blue Day when the astronauts do the spacewalk). Fantastic.

Cool idea. I can see how that'd go well. Yesterday I saw MORE MUSIC FOR FILMS at Virgin - -it was $18.99 -- and though I'm sure it's worth every penny, I couldn't spend that much just then. I seriously can't wait to get that - - it's like, a whole new Eno ambient album, and I still haven't figured out when this music was originally released. Really looking forward to it.

*wipes eyes out* OF eno . . (!) You've known "OF" Eno . . *gasp* // feels dizzy. . . . hehe, yes you do gotta change that bowiglou, and pronto. May I suggest any of his three remaining, initial "alterna/pop" albums: 1. Here Come The Warm Jets (best place to start, at the beginning) 2. Taking Tiger Mountain By STrategy (Get it when you find it) 3. Another Green World (may endure as my personal favorite album ever recorded)

Oh, "Taking Tiger Mountain" is a good one. "Back In Judy's Jungle" is one of my favorite songs of all time. I love the production on that one, of course, and the guitar fuzz on that one is brilliant.
Have you guys heard the reissue yet of "My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts"?
