OK so before rs.com went kerplunk, we were having tons of fun at the RS Project board trying to identify the source of various lyrics. I figured we could have a board here devoted to such music geek games. I'll start with a relatively easy lyrics ID game. Identify the song and artist from which the following lyrics come, whichever ones you can get. No cheating and looking 'em up on yahoo or anything!
1) You hit me with a flower 2) Gary and his eyes have parted company 3) The silence of a falling star lights up a purple sky 4) He's slipping all the way to Texas 5) And the music was soothing, and they all started grooving 6) I didn't get laid, I got in a fight 7) I'm not the kind that needs to tell you just what you want me to 8) We all came out to Montreux 9) Street signs glowing, but it doesn't leave a mark on you 10) They carried out the wishes of the landlord and his son
that's it!
Cheers, M

I like this stuff too much to let there be such little traffic here. Let's get a few more lists, eh? Here's one from me
1. You have many contacts among the lumberjacks 2. I don't know why I feel so tongue tied 3. The light bulb's getting dim 4. Other boys could offer more, but she loved the boy next door 5. It's so easy to fool with the sound 6. Kiss me in the shadow 7. Like a Friday fashion show teenager 8. Fill your heart with smoke 9. I think I spread myself a little too thin 10. Oh kiss me cunt and kiss me cock

1. You have many contacts among the lumberjacks This is definitely Bob Dylan, but I'm not 100% sure of the song. Desolation Row?
6. Kiss me in the shadow Sonic Youth - Shadow of a Doubt
That's all I can get now....
Cheers, M

Yes, it's Dylan, but "Desolation Row" isn't right. Correct album though.

Mary's list ...
5) And the music was soothing, and they all started grooving and then the man in the back said "everyone attack" and it turned into a "Ballroom Blitz" by Sweet (I think that's the right act).
7) I'm not the kind that needs to tell you just what you want me to My all-time number one favorite New Order song, Age of Consent (that is the title, right? it's the first track on Power, Corruption and Lies at any rate).
And Rocky's Dylan quote is from Ballad of a Thin Man ...
because you know something is happening but you don't know what it is, do you Mr. Jones?

Sorry Tunes ... didn't even see your post! But you can have it, as long as I get to keep my New Order.

Be my guest - wouldn't have known that song in a thousand years. Yes! Sweet and Lita Ford - I rule! (man, I'm hopeless at this game... why do I enjoy it so much?)

Tunes -- you don't own Power, Corruption and Lies? Oh that's a huge oversight, that you need to correct at some point. A great, great record. Better than anything Joy Division ever did ... IMHO at least. Easily New Order's best album, and absolutely essential for anyone who cares the slightest about "post-punk" whatever the hell that genre is. Filled with ghosts and great hooks, it's one of the best albums of the eighties.
At least I think so ...

Ken - New Order has always been a bit of a blind spot for me... I own a 'best of' but nothing else. It's not that I don't enjoy what I've heard, it's just that I've always had so many other things I want to pick up first. But I'll surely keep an eye out for PC&L, I promise.
As far as Joy Division - to be honest, no matter how much I've tried, I've yet to be able to get into them. It's a bit strange, but I just chalk it up as one of those critical blind spots we all have, and every once in awhile I'll try again.
