Darth Cheney strikes again ... Cheney On Two-Thirds Of The American Public Opposing The Iraq War: ‘So?’»This morning, on the fifth anniversary of the Iraq invasion, ABC’s Good Morning America aired an interview with Vice President Cheney on the war. During the segment, Cheney flatly told White House correspondent Martha Raddatz that he doesn’t care about the American public’s views on the war: CHENEY: On the security front, I think there’s a general consensus that we’ve made major progress, that the surge has worked. That’s been a major success. RADDATZ: Two-third of Americans say it’s not worth fighting. CHENEY: So? RADDATZ So? You don’t care what the American people think? CHENEY: No. I think you cannot be blown off course by the fluctuations in the public opinion polls. Watch it: thinkprogress.org/2008/03/19/cheney-poll-iraq/

So?
Bush: The battle in Iraq is noble, it is necessary and it is just
Ewen MacAskill in Washington The Guardian, Thursday March 20 2008
George Bush marked the fifth anniversary of the Iraq invasion yesterday with an uncompromising speech in which he described the war as noble, necessary and just and claimed there was now an unprecedented Arab uprising under way against Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida.
With polls showing most Americans opposed to the war, Bush was unrepentant and adamant US forces would remain in Iraq. "Five years into this battle, there is an understandable debate over whether the war was worth fighting, whether the fight is worth winning, and whether we can win it," he said. "The answers are clear to me: removing Saddam Hussein from power was the right decision - and this is a fight Americans must win. Because we acted, the world is better and the United States of America is safer."
The war has killed tens of thousands of people, cost hundreds of billions of dollars and been blamed for creating fresh instability in the Middle East.
Speaking to a small gathering of troops in the Pentagon, he claimed his decision last January to increase the number of US troops in Iraq from 124,000 to 154,000, the surge strategy, had decreased violence and "opened the door to a major strategic victory in the broader war on terror".
He added: "For the terrorists, Iraq was supposed to be the place where al-Qaida rallied Arab masses to drive America out. Instead, Iraq has become the place where Arabs joined with Americans to drive al-Qaida out. In Iraq, we are witnessing the first large-scale Arab uprising against Osama bin Laden, his grim ideology, and his murderous network. And the significance of this development cannot be overstated."
Bush went on to say: "The battle in Iraq is noble, it is necessary, and it is just. And with your courage, the battle in Iraq will end in victory."
Wasn't it *Mission Accomplished* a long time ago ... ??

The answer is no. Iraq is fine, it was worth it, and terrorists are one the run. GWB will be remembered as one of the best ever.

Correction; Iraq was raped in the ass- twice-, is bleeding from the anus and all the collected minds of the world don't know how to stop the bleeding.

Yeah, I mean, I just heard Ollie North tell Laura Ingram that we're winning the war. What more do you need?

And so, five years later, Junior is still as disconnected from reality as he was when the neo-con hawks pushed him into the Irak mess.
Of course, he can't have any another discourse from a political standpoint.
His Black-and-White vision of the world and his beatific idealism stopped him from considering what most of the world leaders were telling him back in 2003 that the second war in Irak would be a huge and costly mistake for the world, the Middle East, Irak and the U.S. itself ...
Even worse than the war itself was the way his administration failed to conceive/implement a real strategy to deal with Post-Saddam Irak!
So! 4000 + soldiers and hundreds of thousand of Iraqi casualties later, billions if not trillions of dollars wasted, the only winners here are the companies who pocketed a large part of the money spent in the war ...
America lost its international reputation, its closest allies in Irak are bailing out, the Iraqis are living daily with the threat of civil war. the Afghans are neglected and god knows what the pakistanis are up to ! The whole Middle East has been distabilized and radicalized, the exact opposite of the result we were supposed to achieve!!
How much time will it take to repair the damage done and how should it be done ...
Senior MCain is prepared to stay 100 years if needed and the Democrats want you to believe that they will bring the troops home as soon or late(!) as possible ...
None of those solutions are either moral or practical ...
Mission accomplished indeed !

I mean, everyone thought the war was a good idea in 2003. No one disputed that it was the right thing to do then. So there's no point in saying "I told you so" nowadays. Especially since we're turning a corner.

It's not about oil, maarts. It's about freedom. How can you talk about gas when Iraqis are immeasurably happier now than they were under Sodom?

Sure, the Iraqis are happy- instead of fighting one common enemy (government) they're now fighting each other.
Peace to you too, man.

Look maarts. You're either with us or you're against us. The terrorists don't listen to reason, and neither should we. Or do you want the next terrorist attack to come in the form of a nuclear strike?
We are turning a corner. George W. Bush is a visionary President. Saddam Hussein had trailers and aluminum tubes that he could have given to Al-Qaeda. And we would have been fucked. Thank God for George W. Bush.
As Governor Pataki said, "He is one of those men God and fate somehow led to the fore in times of challenge."
