Listened to Yeild again because I keep hearing people say the new album is going back to that...I really don't see what some people like so much about this album. It's got a handfull a great songs (Given To Fly, Low Light, Faithful...) but there is too much meh on it. I still think it's their weakest.

Well, it's been awhile since I've listened to Riot Act all the way through, I'm going to do just that today so it may change.

I haven't listened all the way through yet, but I'm extremely impressed here. I can't remember the first time I listened to Ten or Vs., but I can say that so far, I like this better than I have first listen of any PJ album. That said...I bought No Code the day it came out in '96 and fucking HATED it. Wasn't until about six years later a roommate broke it out of my collection and I fell in love with the thing. Yield I liked but was sorta neutral toward...the same with Binaural and Riot Act. This self-titled, though, is just fucking fantastic. Goddamn shame to put that great art on a shitty cardboard casing, though, but that's what we gotta expect from these guys forever, I guess. I hated No Code too! It came out in '96, I didn't warm up to it until 1999. Binaural is still growing on me, and after 6 years I think that really says something about that album. I mean I'm just now realizing that "Sleight Of Hand" is brilliant; I like albums that age well, and Binaural is indeed one of 'em... Glad you're digging Avocado....The second half of the album IMO isn't nearly as catchy/assessable as the first. Don't get me wrong, the songs are great (IMO), they just take some getting used to (Gone, Army Reserve, Inside Job to be specific). Does anyone else think "Come Back" would have been a better album closer than "Inside Job"?

It's got a handful a great songs (Given To Fly, Low Light, Faithful...) but there is too much meh on it. I still think it's their weakest. I've seen a lot of comparisons as well...I think it's more the accessibility of the new album is why folks compare it to Yield...Sound wise they are nothing alike, but both are kinda easy on the ears. Binaural and RA are difficult listens and don't grab you my the balls the way the new album does. Anyway songs/things I dig about Yield: - Jack Irons; he's just one of my favorite drummers. I absolutely love his style and grace behind the kit... - Do The Evolution; perhaps some of Vedder's best social commentary lyrics ever, and the video in fucking awesome! - All Those Yesterday's; just a beautiful yet sad song...I tell you, Mr. Stone Gossard sure knows how to write touching melodies (see also "Off He Goes" and "Parachutes"). - Brain Of J; just a damn good rocker (Mr. Mike McCready wrote this one) - Given To Fly; sure it sounds like "Going To California", but it also brought the anthem rock back to Pearl Jam. - Red Dot; what a whacked out song! It reminds me of my friends and I...."We're all crazy, we're all crazy and we're". That's it, those are the only lyrics. Oh, and I didn't mention that this is a Mr. Jack Irons original, but I'm sure by the drum beat y'all could tell.... - Hummus; the coolest hidden track I've ever heard. Wow! Who knew PJ had that in them? Again, a Mr. Irons thing....

I found my Pearl Jam mix tape from high school...here's what on it - Side 1 - I've Got A Feeling I miss Pearl Jam covering this song...Don't think they've done it since 1994....maybe it will resurface, and they'll give RITFW a rest....

Just found the setlist online for the Pearl Jam show I saw a few years back. I'm assuming that this is pretty typical from what I've read (other than that they'll obviously be having a little more emphasis on the new album):
Gund Arena Cleveland, OH 4-25-03
1. Can't Keep 2. Corduroy 3. Grievance 4. Save You 5. Do the Evolution 6. Given to Fly 7. Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town 8. Love Boat Captain 9. I Am Mine 10. Even Flow 11. Present Tense 12. Jeremy 13. Lukin 14. Not for You 15. Thumbing My Way 16. Spin the Black Circle 17. Alive
First Encore 18. You Are 19. Animal 20. Daughter/(W.M.A.)/(People Have the Power) 21. State of Love and Trust 22. Black Second Encore 23. I Am a Patriot 24. Driven to Tears 25. Betterman 26. Crazy Mary 27. Sonic Reducer 28. Rockin' in the Free World
So yeah, as you can see, they covered almost all the hits (other than Immortality), plus a whole lot of other stuff too. Not a whole lot left to ask for, really.
Looking up that set list really got me geeked for seeing them next month.

Of the covers Leaving Here is my favorite....Baba O'Reily, RITFW and Fuckin' Up are good but I wouldn't be upset if they never played them again. Don't Be Shy is really good too, They should play I Believe In Miracles and The Kids Are Alright more.

Yep, that's pretty much a standard set list Rocky...But you did get some gems as well...
Present Tense is a No Code classic, and you got Lukin; but that was it from NC...
song # 18 must have been "You Are" from Riot Act, not "Who You Are" from No Code. They haven't played the latter since Jack Irons was in the band (Aussie tour early 1998. Matt joined summer of 1998, and they haven't played Who You Are since....).
Oh, you also got Sonic Reducer and SOLAT, both make for excellent songs to hear live.
