This is probably what Paul's getting...I'll listen to a time or two befopre I burn it, if anyone has some suggestions feel free. The first disc is abit more accessable while the second is more dense. Disc 1- 1. Stinkfist 2. Sober 3. Jambi 4. Parabol 5. Parabola 6. Part Of Me (Live) 7. Intolerence 8. 46&2 9. The Pot 10. Schism 11. Wings For Marie (Part 1) 12. 10, 000 Days (Wings Part 2) 13. Undertow Disc 2- 1. Third Eye (Live) 2. Vicarious 3. Eulogy 4. The Grudge 5. Right In Two 6. Pushit 7. Prison Sex 8. Ticks & Leeches A good effort on what's a difficult task. I'd have Third Eye (Live) down very much as a completist track, but that's just me. For someone new to Tool I'd certainly include "Aenema", as that's the song that ensnared my only two 'real life' mates who got into the band. "The Pot"? I'd sooner blow the Cookmeister away with "Hooker with A Penis" at top blast and see if he hangs onto his chair.

luke - I'm afraid I cracked and got myself a preview copy, though I'll also be buying the CD and sending them whatever cut they get of my tenner.
My initial response was disappointment and a sort of "heard it all before" weariness. But it's improved on repeated listening.
I also have to say I'd have enjoyed and appreciated the album more before I gave up the evil weed, and hearing Tool sober... well, sometimes the music alone can transport you, but it's always easier if you can give it a helping hand, eh? This is the first Tool album I've gone to in my post-stoner days.
This is not an easy, instantly gratifying release. I think people sometimes forget how much work a Tool album can take though. Every album since Undertow required an investment, right?
Early days.

I'm going with the J man and say that "Hooker with a Penis" and "Aenema" would be nice additions. Also maybe "Hush." It's a short and easy listen...plus it's a good track. And maybe throw on Crimson's "Frame by Frame" before Tool's "Forty Six & 2" to see how badly they ripped that one off. Still haven't heard a bit of the new album...too nervous. I'm obligated to give it my best listen, of course. But I'll be a nervous wreck until it hits the store shelves and makes it into my hands. Probably still a nervous wreck after a few listens. I remember first hearing "The Grudge" after picking up Lateralus (I'd avoided any radio play of "Schism.") and sitting there with some friends, smirking and uttering a simple, "What?"

I heard the new Tool song on Milwaukee's alternative station and it sounded great I gotta admit - very, very Tool sounding though, but nonetheless, is that not great??!!

Am I really the only one who likes The Pot? The lyrics are terrible but at least it's an attempt to sound alittle different.

1. No you are not the only one. I friggin love that song ! Yes it does sound different... and in a good way
2. That 2-disc mix you're burnin is excellent. It's a good representation . . . & I like the inclusion of the new songs.

Orginally I had Aenima were Undertow is but it was too long, I might try to rework it to fit that on...though I don't know what I'd take off...

There's the same amount from Undertow as there is from Aenima...actually 4 to 5 from each album (some of the 10,000 days and Lateralus songs are in two parts so maybe that makes it seem like more). The live version od Part Of Me a ten times better then the Opiate version, I considered putting Opiate on but it's too long and honestly I just don't think the rest of it's that great.

Opiate is (imo) the easiest of the Tool albums to get into. I got into the band a little while before Aenima was released, but only because I was given a copy of Opiate first. But I was into hardcore at the time & all my friends had mohawks, so maybe thats why I found it accessible. Undertow, I think, would be a much harder first Tool album to get.
