I got Undertow back when it was the only one out. Opiate was basically out of print when they started showing Sober on MTV. I thought Sober was awesome but the song that really hooked me was Intolerence. I listened to Undertow constantly for about year. Later when Aenima came out I stopped listening to them mainly because I hated their fans but a couple years later when Salival came out I got hooked again.

The people who became fans after the release of Aenima are, for me, the ones who largely represent the typical wanky Tool fan. Then again, some think you're not a real Tool fan if you're not OGT from back in '92 for the first EP.
Those people can go suck it.

I don't know how many of you here are into Meshuggah besides Adam - and I'm not sure he's heard 10K Days yet - but you can really hear the slight Meshuggah influence over the album. Well, I can. Its got that rawness & I like it.

Sonic Youth? What about them?
1. They're way past their prime 2. I'm going to see them in July 3. What I've heard of new album is good but not great

Meshuggah rocks it. I keep hearing from people who don't like it (10k Days) that it sounds like the last Disturbed album. Having not heard a single note of the last Disturbed album I can neither confirm or deny this.

I can confirm this - Replacements bootlegs from 84-86 might just be the best goddam things on the planet.

It sounds nothing like the last Disturbed album. Thats the laziest criticism ever.

Disturbed? Don't make me laugh! I still remember hearing the song "Numb" from The Sickness and thinking what a blatant and inadequate attempt it was to recreate Tool's sound.
Disturbed...

I wholly condone this sentiment, and furthermore, will back it up with sharpened weapon in hand. Yes I know how to use it. *Beware!, Oh-Tool-wankers!* for the thoRn'd one is feelin' vengeful. . . ;b

Even though they're not better than Tool, at least we're mentioning them in the same breath. I would far rather them get compared on any level with SY artistically then most of the metal bands they get referenced against.

The new album really does owe a lot to Undertow. It's definitely got a "back to basics" feel to it, a more loose, improvised feel, some "jam" moments, hippie-tabla shit, total stoner references throughout, and as far as I'm concerned, hell, they're just Tool, a freakin' great band, and this album has a lot of interesting sequences, powerful lyrics, and great jamming. I'm past the point of feeling any need to compare their albums w/each other or determine which are the "best", they're all solid, consistent efforts from a unique band that has taken up the challenge of grabbing onto the reigns left by former heavyweights such as Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin - - It's like they're saying "Yeah we're as bummed as the rest of you that there are no longer hardly any such bands as those today, so we're here to help fill that gap while still being ourselves", and that, to me at least, suffices. There is really nothing "wrong" w/10,000 days other than having failed to qualify for some of the more elaborate expectations many have invested into it. No expectation = just another cool rock album from this band. Groove to it chillun

Mantis - - what they meant was, the album titles are too similar: Disturbed "10,000 Fists" Tool "10,000 Days" That's all that that is about. As for the music in each respective album: night/day

*and by the way, yes, "10,000 Fists" sucks. At least I'm sure it must suck . . . cuz I couldn't really get past the first track (allegedly one of the best on it). Hence, I pushed STOP, removed the burnt copy from my stereo, and haven't bothered w/it since.
