There is no way to objectively support whether this TOOL album is or is not as good, better, or worse than anything TOOL has put out before. Thorn hears masterpiece, I hear rehashed riffs, laziness, boring. It's cool. A lot of people thought the same about Kid A, and I'll defend that album to the death. I probably wouldn't write pages and pages to convince anyone otherwise, but I'd give it a fair shot. So I sympathize with thorn. Except I am right about Kid A, and he is wrong about 10,000 days. Every band has legions of "blind allegiance" fans. Underground, mainstream, you name it. Every single band. And yes, it is ridiculous. That alone has turned me off of some bands I used to enjoy...that blind allegiance. But when there are those fans who truly and genuinely love the music (As does Thorn of Tool), it speaks to them and their faith is there. Thorn is FAR FAR from liking Tool because he feels he has to. That is very obvious. Many others are the same. Just because a lot of fools feel that they must blindly follow their band is no reason to assume that all fans are that way.
And that's not just because I'd be gay with Thorn if I was, in fact, gay.
Seriously, I absolutely love how much Thorn loves music. I fucking hate Korn. But I love Thorn's passion for their music and I don't doubt for a minute that it's genuine. He's a true dude. And he makes that very obvious. There are so many god damned hipsters and bandwagoners in this world, it's disgusting. Fucking cherish a guy like Thorn because he just loves the music he loves. It's that simple. And it's that awesome.
that is all

Hating 10K Days is the new black. It must be true, because Stylus said so & Pitchfork confirmed it.
If I didn't even like 10K Days, I'd probably become super-enthused about it after reading ThoRn's posts. The "viewmaster" is annoying me though. I hate when CDs don't conform to standard size & I cannot wedge them into my shelves. Like Vitalogy. That bastard is too tall for my shelves. And now 10K Days is thicker than the rest & its throwing off the balance. Its bad feng shui for my CDs, man.

What's the deal with that elongated curve? Fuck you Dual Disc, you almost ruined Devils & Dust for me! Vitalogy's size didn't bother me so much, but the cardboard sleeve (see No Code, see Being There just to name a couple) pisses me off. I try (and I'm being generous with myself) to keep my CDs free of scratches. But that defeats all of my efforts. Bastards. and yet I love those albums so...

That was a great post, frag. Would you like some candy? I have all kinds of flavours. I really wish I had a smart and snappy comeback to that. But I don't. I thought I would. But no, it's not there. Believe me, I've run my brain over for at least a minute now to think of something either a)funny b)sarcastic or c)sexually inviting. But alas, I can't think of anything. So, suffice it to say, I hate candy. Except Payday. that can stay

Any non-standard sized CDs should be relegated to the bottom shelf, as punishment for seeking to stray outside regulation width & height. Like The Fragile, its too fat & it pokes out past all the others, ruining the streamline. Anal-retentive control freaks shouldn't be allowed to buy CDs... How can you hate candy?

The goggle things on the packaging is a pain in the ass for putting it on the shelf, but it's so fucking cool that there's no reason to put it on the shelf for a while anyway. I'm going to be playing with that packaging for months.
When I first bought the thing yesterday I looked through it briefly, and didn't understand the point of these magnifying glass things. But tonight I smoked with a friend and we listened to the album, and I was looking through that thing and figured out the 3D angle to it, and holy shit is it amazing. At first I wasn't getting my focus relaxed enough, but eventually those pictures were popping right out at me, and the detail of them was amazing. I like the album, but the money I spent on it was worth it for the packaging alone.
Anyway, so far I listened to it once in two parts (during my commute today), and then a full listening tonight. It sounds to be not much of a progression for them--they shift their focus to a different aspect of their sound a bit, but it's something that's always been a part of their music. In that regard it's a little disappointing. But I think to listen to it without expectations, it's still a pretty impressive album. They've set an awfully high standard, so it's hard to get overly excited about something that sounds like something you've heard before. But taken on it's own merits, removing any comparisons to their earlier works, it's really nearly as good as anything else they've put out.

Augustus Gloop! Man, I loved that movie. I was obsessed with the Gene Wilder version as a kid, and when I heard that they were doing a new version, I wasn't sure if I really wanted to see it, for fear that it would be an embarrassment to the original. I ended up seeing it several times. Holy shit was that movie good. Probably better than the first.
And the music was soooooooo good. I downloaded most of the soundtrack and actually listened to some of those songs with some frequency for a while. The Augustus Gloop song is one of the best ones, too.

The remake wasn't better. They're actually equally as good for me. Gene Wilder is a perfect creepy Wonka & the Oompa Loompas were more fun in the original. Also, I prefer most of the original children to the new ones, particularly Veruca.
But Depp was flawless & the remake was more consistent with the book, although I could've done without the father-angst thing. I didn't like the new Oompa Loompa, he was freaky.
