Animal neglect & cruelty should carry the same punishment as child abuse & neglect. There isn't really a huge difference between kicking the shit out of your dog & belting a child.

I have to rant about shitty parents again. My job is really disheartening & it makes me sad The other day I had a client brought in for behavioural assessment, a little girl aged 6. She was brought in by her mother at the advice of her school, because she's becoming very withdrawn & exhibiting antisocial behaviours, also her mother is having some problems disciplining her at home. It was just myself & the little girl in the room during the assessment & she revealed to me her stepfather was sexually abusing her (and it came out in a very subtle, understated way, I actually had to question her several times because, with all due respect to kids, I love em to death, but we know they're fond of lying or overexaggerating at times - but in this instance she was able to come out with details that had me VERY convinced it was no lie). So I conatcted all the relevant people & meanwhile, her mother is nowhere to be seen. She'd "popped out for a quick manicure". She was informed as to the claims made by her daughter & instead of reacting in the way you'd imagine/hope for (ie concern, anger etc) she became super-worried that her husband would divorce her & leave her with no money. No, really, that was her primary focus at the time (the molester stepfather is a mega-rich dude & she's his 4th wife. Its a classy affair all round). So after accusing me of wanting to break up her family & leave her destitute (oh, how could you tell? yes, thats been my goal all along!), she runs off to consult with the family lawyer. And leaves her daughter in our care. So the poor little girl, who is just sitting there looking devastated, has to be accompanied to a physical examination by me, a stranger who in her eyes is the person disclosing secrets that are going to cause trouble for her family. Grrrrr! I know child abuse makes most people angry, but I can't even verbalise how angry I was that day. Parents aren't supposed to abandon you when you need them like that. Fucking money-hungry bitch.

WHO SAID VENTS HAVE TO MAKE SENSE? READ BELOW! I hate music critics. I envy them cos they get all sorts of advanced discs. And I hate them cos I envy them for that. And they get paid too. Alot of times the life or death of a band/person hinges upon what some buttered lobster eating snob thinks about it (and his past Seagrams stock options)
I think, in order to be a paid music critic, you ought to have been in a band signed to a major label. Or in a band for at least 5 years.
on one hand--The creative process isnt easy--sure..
on the other hand if thats all you have to do with your time to make money is make music its another can of worms. Its a dumb argument. A dumb vent. If all I had to do all day was write songs and f*&k around in my home studio that would be pretty kick ass. But the "struggle of the life" seems to hang a--ahh fuck it.
If you are a music critic--try and be creative. Whats your best?
if your in a band thats sucking that has nothing to do but write songs: get with the program.
Im posting this against my better judgement.

Layla- that story was unbelievable! That poor child should be in foster care and the bitch locked up for neglect...not to mention mr. Megabuck Paedophile.

Ped's should be neutered...
Vent for the day: The wifebeater downstairs recently moved his family into another of the apartment complexes units of apartments. Now my upper next door neighbors moved out (she became pregnant...and she's not finished with school yet) so the wifebeater is moving his family into the pregnant ex-neighbors - right across the hall folks - apartment.
I swear, when they were living under neath me it was bad enough with the constant screaming, yelling and slamming of doors. Whats it gonna be living across from them?
Wifebeaters should be shot.
I'll call the cops. Like other neighbors have done on them in the past.
It's called domestic violence folks.
I'm very concerned what with Toodles the poodle coming home in another 9 days. 8 weeks old is way too young to have to tolerate or understand violence.

haha, I like that music critic rant. I can take or leave reviews really. Music ones I have no time for. Film reviews can be useful, but mostly they all suck. Layla- that story was unbelievable! That poor child should be in foster care and the bitch locked up for neglect...not to mention mr. Megabuck Paedophile. Yeah, I know. Its just that no matter how horrible it is for a child in their home environment, its really traumatic for them to be removed from it because kids crave consistency & familiarity. Thats a real last resort kinda thing & in instances like this the father is removed from the home & the kid stays with the mother. Its very disheartening any which way it works out, but its out of my hands now & with the police. Nothing will happen to him, just like all the other child molesters who get away with it.

Shitty neighbours, Pat. Just keep calling the cops & play music to Toodles so he doesn't hear it.
I don't really know police procedure & it might be different in the States (maybe Ken would know this?) If cops get called to a domestic violence situation, they can actually press charges against the abusive person, even if the partner doesn't want to press charges? Hopefully that will happen & the wifebeater can get the hell out.

Working in child care once removed (family law, and expert witness sides) I just can't reconcile any of it.
The screeening process for foster carers is obviously in need of improvement, and actually now what they are finding here at least is that they are having to pay the carers big money and private fostering is becomign more popular cos people just don't want to do it on the money the local authorities will pay them.
It is so sad when you can tell the children would rather stay with their family and be at risk of harm, because they would be just SO unhappy being removed from siblings and mum and it's all just such a shitfight
Are you in SSD, Layla?

I was reading about what your current work is over @ another thread, forget which. Sounds very interesting. Are you enjoying it? Do you think you'll stay on with it?
I actually work in psych assessment at the moment (but applying for masters or med school - haha, because I don't know if this is for me). Mostly its quite straightforward, I just assess the hospital & clinic patients for behavioural problems (kids) or functioning deficits (usually in-patients who've had brain trauma etc). Things like discovering a patient is being sexually abused is NOT the norm in my job. Thank goodness.

The reaction to mothers who find out their kids are getting molested doesn't often seem to be, "OH! That fiend! I'm getting a divorce!" More likely the mother ends up confused, jealous, and in denial.
One of the teachers my wife works with used to do a lesson on child molestation when she taught the fifth grade. A child came up to her and told her that his step-father was molesting him. So she does all the proper stuff- calls child services and all of that. They check the kid out and their verdict? "Insertion wasn't deep enough to be considered rape." So this kid comes back to class, battered and bruised because his step-dad beat the shit out of him for ratting him out, and tells his teacher, "I hate you, you told me you would protect me, you lied to me and I never want to talk to you again."
Needless to say, she doesn't teach that lesson anymore.

"Insertion wasn't deep enough to be considered rape"?!
Or maybe the kid was wearing provocative clothing & acting slutty. Honestly, the world is fucking shit sometimes. Absolute shit.

yeah layla i really enjoy it. expert witness work seems quite good work, the money is bloody good even though effectively it is the state who funds it. Judges are too scared to make big calls so leave it to the experts ESP in chi care cases!
