I was at work today for a short shift, just to cover a few things my supervisor wasn't able to (so I wasn't paid for one, grrr) & the only patient we saw was this 12 year old boy, a forced referral via the educational authorities with some serious conduct issues ( the reason he was sent to us for assessment in the first place was because he seriously assaulted another kid at his school, among other things like setting fire to his neighbour's car....jeez) Anyway, we do only assessments, diagnoses, testing functioning etc not therapy, so most kids are being sent to us & are very resistant, thats fine. Kids with conduct disordered issues are even more resistant because they're shits & being resistant is one of their charms. But this kid was just horrible. Misdiagnosed as ADHD by some idiot doctor which means he has been treated with ritalin (doing him no good & then idiot doc decides hey lets remove him off meds really suddenly so the kid goes apeshit & worse than before). Came in with his mother, who kept leaving through assessment to chain-smoke half a pack & told us her son was "an asshole". Awesome parenting skills, honey. The kid ended up throwing a chair at me, kicked me in the knee (the chair didn't hurt but the knee kick hurt...I was this close to smacking him into next week for that knee pain) & following his attempts to tackle me, had to be held down & restrained by two male psych nurses. Kid ends up with a small bruise on his arm & his mother goes mental, starts threatening to charge us. Aarrgghh! Her eldest son is in juvi for rape, her second son has been charged with aggravated assault & now her youngest son is facing charges for assault, all three kids have the level of conduct disorder suggesting a great deal of it is the result of their home evnironment & the mother suddenly becomes concerned about a bruise? Look at my knee, bitch! It swelled up the size of a grapefruit, plus I still have to try & get some sort of functional session with your kid so we can stop him from ending up in juvi too & in between your chainsmoking you find issue with your kid having a bruise? He bashed another kid around the head with a plank of wood! Why have kids if you're going to be a moron! grrr and I didn't even get paid for the privilege of having my knee kicked *angry* eeeks. there's such a fine line between the slow unraveling of the evolutionary process and humanism.... rehabilitate? fook dat. let's just kill em. j/k |

Not to mention the mother had hideous fashion sense. She was all permed, bouffy hair (bad dye job), too-tight skirt, heels that went out of style 6 years ago & cleavage to Mexico.
