By the time I was 26, I'd lived in 27 different towns. And that wasn't even counting moves within the same town. I've only moved twice since then -- once to Omaha, and once back to El Paso. If I never move again, it won't bother me a bit.
Realtors ask me if I'm interested in selling, and I just laugh. I may die in this house.

Yeah, every once in a while I think about going somewhere else, but the truth is I'm pretty settled now. I've done some hard thinking on it over the last six months to a year, and there really isn't any place I'd rather live. And for the first time, there really isn't any job I'd rather be doing! This teaching thing really is agreeing with me. Even the bad days aren't that bad ... and there aren't that many of 'em. Anyway ... hi samps! That's about all I've got time for right now ... speaking of the house, I've got some cleaning, etc., to do. Time to turn The Boss back up and get back to "work" . . .

nice. when you get done being a housewife you can tell me if you'd recommend going the teaching route with my second degree. i've been pondering most ponderfully about what the hell i want to Do with my Life. i've narrowed it down to a few things that seem Do-able at least.
- college professor (sounds like fun, honestly. my mom says education politics will drive me way more bananas than office politics ever did. and office politics drive me pretty bananas.) sadly i can't decide WHAT i want to teach and anything i do want to teach i'm sure i'll never find a job teaching. how many art history professors does the world really need?.. - teaching developmentally disabled kids (i'm very patient, and i think i'm a good teacher. used to tutor "non-traditional" students in college - basically old people and mentally disabled people) - hospice care. (well, somebody's gotta do it.) - telling companies and organizations specifically what they are doing wrong (efficiency-wise) and telling them how to fix it. mostly focusing on their paperwork, office organization, management strategies and general company policy. - self-sustaining farmer (oh, i wish... too bad i can't even keep a houseplant alive to save my life.)

Not that is has anything to do with what is being said here but one teacher at the high school were the "boys" go told me this about most of the kids he teaches ...
They confuse Want and Emptiness ... Gloom and Obscure ... Absence and Desire ... Self-esteem and ... Brontosaurus shit ! ;D !

Not sure that I've said life starts only after 25 but I couldn't wait to finish college and, for the first time, be solely responsible for what I was about to do with my life ...
I was almost 24 ...
Celebrated by going on a one year trip to Europe !!

Wow I am stunned by how many cities you've lived in, samps. That's crazy. The only cities I've really lived in:
Newton, MA Hanover, NH (UGH. most boring place on earth!) Berkeley/Oakland, CA (two diff cities but I kinda treat them together, it was all part of living in the bay area) Memphis, TN
That's it. Oh, unless the summer I spent in Homer, AK counts.
Done my share of travelling though. 35 states, 14 countries. Not enough outside of North America & Europe though. Desperately want to explore South America next.

Mary, to be fair, most of those places weren't my choice. my stepdad got sick and we relocated over and over all around the country for doctors and their experimental treatments. then they told us to give up (this after years of sticking tubes in strange places in him and making my mother administer untested medication into them, among many other vain attempts to fix their fuck-ups) and we ended up in kansas of all places. obviously not my choice.
in fact all i remember about little rock was sleeping in those fold-up metal pool lounge chairs in an empty living room (the upstairs was so old we would have fallen through the floor if we slept up there, i guess) with sleeping bags and waking up constantly falling off. but there were too many spiders to sleep on the floor. arkansas rocks.

Denton used to be cool but alas everything good about it is now gone. It has been gentrified like crazy and all of the fun, highly original, kitschy places were torn down and a huge Target Shopping Center was put in it's place. So in my opinion, Denton is no more. No more pizzas at the Flying Tomato, no more great coffee at the Karma Cafe.......it's all gone. It's sad.

By the time I was 26, I'd lived in 27 different towns. Hold on a sec. That's . . . one town for each year, except for one year, where it was two towns. Damn.
