HOLY SMOKE !!
Get away for a day on Schoolboard matters
and you guys turn this place into a frat house !!
I'm not very fond of pumpkin recipes myself ...
You gotta put a bunch of spices to make the thing palatable
Like escargots are just the excuse to eat a lot of garlic and butter
Hé ! Tastes are not debatable !!
Here's a dessert recipe that's easy to make
and should be made in advance ...
APPLES AND CINNAMON
FRENCH FREEDOM TOAST
- 5 tblsp butter
- 6 large baking apples, peeled, cored, sliced
- 1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
- 2 tblsp dark corn syrup (better with maple syrup !)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 8x 1 inch-thick slices large french bread
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
The day before serving, prepare apples and french toasts :
in large heavy skillet, melt butter over medium heat
add apple slices and cook stirring occasionally, until tender
Add brown sugar, corn syrup and cinnamon
cook, stirring until brown sugar dissolves
Pour mixture into a 13x9" baking pan and spread to even layer
Arrange bread slices in one layer on top of apple mixture
In medium size bowl, beat eggs, milk and vanilla until well mixed
pour over bread slices
cover and refrigerate overnight
Next day, bake at 375 F for 30 to 35 minutes
or until mixture is firm and bread is golden.
Let cool in pan for 5 minutes
Invert serving tray over the pan and carefully turn both over to unmold
so that apple layer is on top
Serve immediately
You can put cream on top
(cream is not optional around here ... !!)
