ah, my Miss New Orleans...and I mean miss Oreleans! The visits I've had and post-midnight strolls/crawls down Bourbon Steet fuels on the 'big ass beer' cupfulls of Abita....cheap and by the plastic pints (to which I tossed in liberal spashes of Southern Comfort) and such a taste left iin my mouth. And now in this late season I find my local bottle shoppe offering Abita Vanilla Doubledogyeah baby! Okay, I'll admit up front that it may be a tad bit thin., BUT if y'er looking for some candy in a glass, grab this puppy up! I'm a Turbodog fan and this aged concoction with vanilla bean and chocolate malts makes for a fine sipper! It's got the rustic taste of the T-dog that is in balance with the sweetness of the added ingrediants. Luscious to toss down or maybe even pour over some good vanilla bean ice cream! That I think would be sublime...

I think I've see some Costco coffees get very decent reviews. I used to get some stuff from Sam's that was fantastic too. Now of course compared to this Ethiopean stuff I just brewed..... I swear you can taste the soil of Africa in it....heavenly deep, dusty and exotic!

"If you enjoy gagging and even puking before the point of being drunk, this just may be your beer." CLASSIC!

it's pretty clear that maybe the guy's (somewhat elitist) heart was in the right place, some editor probably told him to 'punch it up' cos no-one going to read it without putting in some outrageous characterization 'to create traffic'. always chasing the 'viral'...can you imagine, they go to journalism school for that?! ND: i lied - it's sam's club in this case. i thought they were a costco family.

The Stew First events announced for Oskar Blues' Chicago debutBy Josh Noel Tribune Newspapers 3:48 p.m. CDT, August 8, 2012 One of the great holes in Chicago's craft beer landscape was filled when Colorado's Oskar Blues reached a deal last month to begin distributing here.
That distribution begins Aug. 21, and the brewery is celebrating with what is expected to be more than 60 tastings and events throughout the city and suburbs. Below are those that have been confirmed so far.
A little background on Oskar Blues: it was founded in 1999, when Dale Katechis decided to brew beer at his Lyons, Colo. restaurant. Fueled primarily by Dale's Pale Ale, things took off nicely and its production grew steadily, from 340 barrels in 1999 all the way to 59,000 barrels in 2011. This year, the brewery announced it would build a second production facility in Brevard, N.C., which means the growth will only continue. To its credit, Oskar Blues was also one of the first (if not the first) craft brewery to can its beers, a trend that spread wildly through the industry.
As for the beer itself, I suppose the nicest thing I can say is that when visiting Wisconsin in recent years (cheeseheads got Oskar Blues before us and they get Aaron Rodgers -- not fair), I have usually returned with an Oskar Blues six pack or two. One favorite is Dale's Pale Ale, simply because it hits that perfect intersection of bold (it's well hopped), bright (but not overly hopped) and drinkable (6.5 percent alcohol). It's the perfect post-work beer. If you want something lighter at 5 p.m., Oskar Blues makes Mama's Little Yella Pils, a pilsner. If you want something heavier, there's Deviant Dale's, a newly-released IPA.
Though it comes in cans, much of Oskar Blues' remaining line falls in the ought-to-savor category (and certainly pour it into a glass while savoring). Old Chub (a malty Scottish-style ale), Gubna (an imperial India pale ale), Ten Fidy (an imperial stout) and G'Knight (an imperial red ale) are all cleanly-executed investments in tastebuds and time. Most of them aren't terribly complex (Ten Fidy would be the exception), but I've never been disappointed in an Oskar Blues brew. Chicago will enjoy getting to know its line of beers. You can start at the events below.

Buddy of mine in Denver swore by Dale's Pale ....haven't had the stuff myself.
Pisses me off a bit that the writer almost seems to be slamming "though it comes in cans"..... DON'T ever let that be something that stops you from trying a beer! Cans have a better seal than bottle caps, they totally block out any spoilage by light, and with present-day lining techniques that old 'tastes like tin' addage has gone by the wayside (besides, as the author sez: pour it in a glass anyhow as one SHOULD do with any decent brew!).

...in ADDITION to the fact that they transport more efficiently (ie cheaply) in container ships coming over from 'the continent' - i can get delicious pilsner urquell and D.A.B. (outta dortmund) for the now-riDICulous price of 99 cents for a 500ml tallboy. while their in-the-bottle 12 ouncers top out at 2 bucks a bottle. phfffft, no-brainer.

I've never been so thirsty for a twelve pack of good imported beer or a few pints of Guinness than since I started taking heart medication and am unable to drink alcohol.
