Nice board Proud!
They don't do that in Catholic schools anymore. And I'm also one of the few non-Catholics in New Jersey LOL.
Anyway, I'm a junior at Ramapo College in North Jersey, where I'm a Communications major and Music minor. I definitely want to go to grad school, maybe somewhere like Boston University or the University of Texas-Austin. I'm not 100% sure what I want to do yet, but since I'm so obsessed with pop culture, maybe I'll go into media studies or something.

Best of luck, Punk Chick!
Is this for real? Well, after high school, I went to Indiana State for a year, then quit. After a bit, I went to Bessemer State, in Birmingham, and got a diploma in auto mechanics (I had a leg up on that, y'see). So I did that for awhile.
Then I went to college at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and got a BS in education with majors in English and history (concentrations for teaching the subjects in high school).
The track to a master's was my plan, but - FATE! I did love teaching Beowulf to high school kids, and I enjoyed the year I spent teaching (auto mechanics and "industrial psychology") at Bessemer State, but alas, I was lured away to the corporate world. That means they didn't renew my contract, what with all the budget cuts, so I had to do something else. Worked out fine though; doin' A-OK. And I'm not turning wrenches, but I guess I could, eh?

good luck to the both of you! whatever happens punkchick (i'd call you by a nickname, but i doubt you'd like "punk" or "chick"), i'm sure you'll be doing great. i'm still in community college, myself...
edit: strat, a lot of people go for a master's and then something happens. especially if you take a break inbetween degrees. that can kinda do in your chances. i'm sure you're getting along fine, anyway.

Proud, you can call me either nickname. Amp calls me Punky or Punkers and I don't mind.

haha. i'd call you PC, but that stands for political correctness and i overall consider that an evil, so... i'll call you... uhh... well, i'll get back to you on that.
anyway, i plan to stay in jersey for my "real" college. i'm thinking of going to rowan, mainly because it's close and i don't want to shell out the money to live at a school. mainly because i don't have that money.

Looks like I'm the dumbass around here! ;D
Just high school for me, along with community college to get my emergency medical license. Oh, and I have my firefighting training too. That's about it...unless you count "the school of life"! I sure don't have much in the way of higher education.

i'm at sydney uni studying arts(media and communications). so, my compulsory major is media and communications, and my other major is english/american lit. enrolling in english honours next year, hopefully. four year degree with an internship, all good. great lecturers, great uni. sandstone and the like. i love it. i was enrolled in this subject, 'world politics' this semester which almost every australian politician has been in. sat in the same lecture theatre. it's pretty daunting. we breed them all i can't imagine dropping out or going anywhere else. though, ask me what i think when i get my results back next week :S

punkchick, what do you do as part of your communications major? our set out is that we have compulsory media subjects, and our uni is the only one that lets us combine other subjects with that. last semester we did journalism, this semester media theory, next year; radio production, online media, public relations and the following year; online media production, video production and television and something else that has escaped me. then, in the fourth year, we do an internship in chosen field and the majority of people end up being employed by that company.
how about you? does it covr everything, or do you choose a discipline? at other unis here, you do a public relations degree, or a journalism degree, etc.

Oh, and Proud, I actually applied to Rowan in HS, and I got in, but I really didn't want to go there. I visited Rowan at one of their Open Houses, and it just didn't click with me. Plus it was really far from home and in the middle of nowhere.
It's not a terrible school, but not a great one either...all I know is that they have a really big Education program, and that it's a HUGE party school...lots of frats/sororities there. But if you think Rowan is right for you, then go for it.

they're a party school? haha, i heard the exact opposite. ah well. i'm not interested in parties, really. i'm just interested in getting a degree at a decent price. i know that sounds horrible, but i just don't have the money for anything big. rowan, except for maybe the college of new jersey, is the only school i could probably drive to and back.

So, how many communication majors do we have here, anyway? I sure don't have much in the way of higher education. Some people do a pretty good job of educating themselves. strat, a lot of people go for a master's and then something happens. especially if you take a break inbetween degrees. that can kinda do in your chances. i'm sure you're getting along fine, anyway. Thanks, Proud. After rereading what I wrote, it sounds pretty negative, but I pretty much love my job. I've brought to bear what I learned in getting my degree in education with what I learned turning wrenches and as an instructor. I develop training courses for automotive technicians (secondary ed, post secondary, and inservice), and do a lot of writing and editing. BTW, I have an article coming out next month in ACtion magazine (a really exciting trade publication put out by the Mobile Air Conditioning Society Worldwide) on training. I'll post the link when it's published. But my continuing "formal" education now largely consists of attending conventions and trade shows from time to time, to keep up with what's new. Those are usually lots of fun, in places like Vegas, New Orleans, and Orlando, so I don't complain too much.
