what i'm thinking of doing is spending another year in community, getting an associates, and taking a year or so off. i am so in a bad financial situation... i haven't even worked on getting a permit or license or anything because there's no way i could afford insurance or a car. people keep telling me to take out a million loans and go into debt, but they don't have a fucking clue because they're not the ones who have to pay it back. take out a loan for community... take out a loan for a 4 year school... take out a loan for anything else... jesus christ, is that the only solution people can think of? if only the government didn't take 1.7 billion dollars out of the pell grant...
i already have two jobs, and neither of them give me more than a few hours, so i'm working, like, 10 hours a week for little money. i'm thinking of quitting one of them and going for a different one. i like both jobs, but i'm in a tight position and i don't have much of any other options. except sit around and be depressed and that's something i won't let happen.

aw, proud, bottom line is if you do continue with school, you WILL have debt. it's something we all have to deal with. my dad got his degree in graphic design like 20 years ago, and only just finished paying off the debt a few years ago.
i'm really lucky, i got my bachelors degree and left with only about $10,000 in debt, which is now more like $5500, but if i continue with a PhD or anything, I'll be in debt pretty much for the rest of my life. It's just something you gotta deal with, unless you win the lottery or rob a bank.

$10,000 is not near what i would have to do... trust me. i know that's hell enough, though.

plenty of friends have or will have several hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt by the time they graduate. plus a lot of credit card debt. i was extremely lucky, with grants, scholarships, and having worked/saved up since i was 14. but it was all my money and the government's. parents didn't help at all with school. just think about it this way -- maybe you'll die before you have to pay it all back!

yeah, i know one or two people like that as well...
heh, i have no plans on dying anytime soon, but i guess that's something you can't always predict. i'd rather not die, anyway!

sounds like fun, but i know very little about that stuff.
HOORAY! my school is now offering a 50%-payment-at-a-time plan (well, with an extra $10 on the second payment, but it's well worth it), meaning this friday or so i'll be able to sign up for classes and pay with some of my own pocket cash and the money the state gave me! woo hooooo!

Cool. So, how many communication majors do we have here, anyway?Count me as one, too! I kind of fell in love with cinematography when my grandpa bequeathed an old Kodak Brownie 8 mm camera to my brothers and me. I continued movie-making in high school. Our school was fortunate at the time to have an art teacher who pretty much started a filmmaking class with his own equipment. Later, he got a grant for some better stuff, which was about when I started H.S. Mind you, this was well before the camcorder era – we shot and edited on Super 8 film. We had Super 8 cameras with and without sound. I won a couple of Michigan Student Film Festival awards in H.S. – one for an animation and one for live action. In H.S., I lived in the shadow of my “actor” brother (who did our school’s morning announcements for two years) and my “star athlete” brother (first team all-state in baseball and honorable mention all-state in basketball). Now I out-earn them both! ](*Devilish laugh*)Anyway, I got my bachelor’s in Mass Communications (Radio-TV-Film major) from Wayne State University in Detroit. Took me 11 years (hey, full-time job and was in a band), but I got it. Of course, in the Detroit area, you pretty much find yourself in the auto industry one way or another. And I had a passion for cars, anyway, so it was a good fit. (Don't have the technician background like Strat, though.) Like Strat-O, I have been in the automotive technical training/technical writing business for many years. I also produced and directed about 40+ technical and sales training video programs, so my education wasn’t all for naught.

EXCELLENT, Jeff! Very succinct and to the point. Gets into the varying levels and uses of the media, which I think is often overlooked. Putting a book or video online is NOT Web-based training!
"Large need with a small demand." Sad but true.
GREAT job, buddy!
