overall, for sure. i'm having trouble making a decision, but i've come to terms that all colleges have their ups and downs and my family will be in anxiety if i move too far away. so i'll settle on something i can enjoy, and move on from there.

thanketh thou, ma'am.
considering that there are just about no extracurriculars at community college, it's better than nothing. ah, the joys of community college. lesser education, but if the credits transfer, 2 years for a lot less of a price. hooray! ... even though universities seem to have no love for transfer students...

down to 3...
Aims:
The College of New Jersey Syracuse University
Safety School:
Rutgers - New Brunswick
fwee. i'd like to go to a private school, but looking at monmouth's stats, my interest in there has faded quite a bit. seems like the type of school where you can brag about a 980 SAT score and a 3.0 community college GPA. i love how the school's by the shore (i wish i could find more quality schools that are), but the academic standards aren't there. forget it.
the most convenient school to go to would probably be Rutgers, but large class sizes, the surrounding area, and the massive student body kind of kill my interests. i'd probably get some sweet scholarship and financial aid money from there, but i'm not so sure that i'd enjoy my time there. if this was a semester thing, i wouldn't care about that, but if i'm going to spend 2+ years somewhere, it better be worth my time.
i was looking for private schools in this state and the nearby states. the only respectable one i could find in new jersey is drew, but the costs are quite hefty and from reading what the student body thinks, it doesn't seem like an academically or socially friendly environment. plus whenever i mention drew to someone familiar with the university, i basically get a "don't go there" response.
so, due to the lack of quality private schools in this state, i looked at pennsylvania and new york. some new york schools caught my eye, but their standards are beyond my records and possibly abilities (new york university, cornell, etc.). the syracuse name intrigued me, as well as the amount of money they give out to phi theta kappa students. it seems like a challenging institution, but still within my league... the type that graduate schools go for (though i'm sure the school also has graduate students). a bit of a distance, and that's pretty much the only factor keeping it from being my #1 choice.
the college of new jersey probably is my best bet, and the school that i should be most focused on getting accepted into. challenging curriculum, a good name to graduate schools, a prestigious reputation as new jersey's #1 public college, high rankings from various sources, and an academically supportive environment. my main concerns about this school: the status of transfer students (they seem to be an afterthought at the school, even more so than other big name schools... they seem to have a love for freshman students, and transfer students are taken in almost as a public obligation, or at least that's the vibe i get) and possibly falling behind academically and not being able to use the name to my advantage when moving on to higher education.
tons of words...

*will consider*
amusingly enough, i've heard some good things about pc's school, ramapo.
what i've heard about syracuse...
stuck up student body. can be so annoying that many people have actually transferred out due to it. considering that, the distance, and the fact that the advantages aren't worth those two factors... i better give up on it.
what i've heard about monmouth...
good campus, good location, mediocre academics. might keep it as a safety school.
maybe i should give ramapo a more serious look... i kind of brushed it aside when a... family member of mine told me it was a "weird school" for not having any history, but that means very little to me...
