Wow, that's weird! That's the recipe. My sister leaves out the orange liqueur and just ads more vodka and/or tequilla to make up for it. Obviously, she's not the only one who liked the recipe so much she started sending it out!

That looks pretty good, though I'm sure a lot of it depends on the quality of the melon. And I can't see how you could make it on the rocks without it just being watermelon sludge. Triple Sec/orange liqueur is a must in regular margaritas. I could see how it'd help here depending on how sweet the melon is. But more power to anyone's sister who dumps more real booze in there. Hopefully it'll work with tequila. "Watermelon margarita" is girly enough, I don't wanna be caught drinking the things with vodka. Plus the wife hates vodka from years of abuse in junior division...

That's just the way my sister makes drinks ... I was down there a few weeks ago, and we both discovered we'd developed a shared liking for vodka/tonics. When she made them, my brother in law would never have her make him one. Instead, he'd wait for me to take a sip and make a face, then he'd take my glass back in the kitchen, pour abour half of it into a glass for himself, add tonic to both glasses, and we were all happy.

Vodka/tonic is something I've ordered in bars but never actually made. That may change soon with my martini obsession perhaps evolving into a clear liquor phase. Though yeah, the wife's distaste for the stuff may prevent that. Probably shouldn't tell her that gin is just vodka with herbs and juniper added...

Cilantro always seems to go to seeds in a hurry no matter what you do with it ...
Nice thing is it seeds itself pretty easily so I always have plants sprouting everywhere !

Any tips on growing cilantro? We grow it, and it grows for a month or so, but then it just stops at random. Sort of a pain in the ass. Mine lasts a couple of months or more at best....I try to keep it from budding the little white flowers for one but really I think it's the summer heat that does it in. From what I know it tends to dig the cooler weather... But when it's nice and full I'm putting that shit into everything! Especially liked cutting slits into chicken breasts and packing them with garlic & cilantro and then grilling them up.

I always keep a bottle of it and a bottle of gin in the freezer (in fact I'm enjoying a 3-olive martini as we speak). Best tasting vodka I've had is Ciroc. Distilled from grapes, this stuff is just best enjoyed straight or on pure rocks --- smooooth isn't even the word for it and it has the slightest shadings of the grapes in it's taste. Next to it give me Ketal One. Then it's a toss-up between Vox and Belvedere. My midprice standby was always Skyy but then I was turned onto a polish vodka called Svedka --- fuckin' $10 a bottle and beat out Skyy in smoothness easily! Not the easiest to find but worth it for the price! About 10 years ago I used to just get by now and then with some Dark Eyes or Smirnoff but man do some side-by-side taste testing and your eyes will open fast! The Dark Eyes is especially horrid, HORRID stuff..... I haven't explored the better gins -- mostly due to low finances. The Tanq. No. 10 that I mentioned elsewhere IS great stuff but at home I've just settle for Gordon's London Dry gin as I read it's a good value. No complaints so far!
