FWIW, I don't think that you are a racist, but I do think that what you said earlier today was racist. And if I were Hispanic, rather than just someone who enjoys the culture of my adopted home town, I would've been offended by your characterization of how Mexicans ruined your home town.
We don't all have a vendetta against you -- I sure as hell don't -- but I think that there is some truth to the critiques of your position here. Similarly, you've got a point about Shin et al doing some juvenile shit to inflame you. Pay more attention to the substance and less to the style is all I'm saying.

Ken, I do think that someone needs to have lived through what went on here over the past 5-10 years to gain a worthwhile appreciation of the sheer mass, the literal horde (a subtext, for better, or in Mary's case, for far worse and WhoTF should care? This is FACT. Full stop.) which in fact absolutely DID come in here.
And quite a few other Chicago inner-ring suburbs.
Was it the jobs, was it because their relatives and village neighbor compadres are here....the houses WERE cheap, because the empty-nest Czechs and Bohemians have voted down EVERY damned education tax referendum for twenty straight years!
No-one could justify the escalation in price of ADJACENT neighboring COMPARABLE towns like Oak Park or Riverside because education was whittled down to nothing..to shit, in fact. There, of course, was next to zero influx of latino families with 6 kids cause it was beyond their price range. Tho the public education systems are exemplary.
THis place WILL gentrify in the next 10-15 years because he location is incredible with al of these people being BLOWN out of here on a cushion of cash IF the don't default...OR if they don't get killed first.
The neighborhood HAS become that ugly. And I do feel sorry for who's left. Anglos, blacks AND the cool Mexicans with families and shit.
AND this is NOT the first time I've gone through this.
