plus: I don't know anything about "rating friends 1 to 10", that's a feature I've never been exposed to on myspace. *shrugs*

I actually met a lot of really cool people and good friends in Memphis through various myspace groups and bulletins and profiles - especially the black lodge video store and a group of political progressives who get together for drinks every thursday. When you're moving across the country by yourself to a completely unfamiliar place that has a reputation for being the exact OPPOSITE of everything that you love in a city, then myspace can be a great tool for discovering the interesting pockets of people and organizations and places that crop up almost anywhere. I've been having a pretty great time in memphis lately and I suspect I wouldn't say that were it not for myspace.
I suspect myspace and similar tools have progressively less appeal as you:
-get older -get married -have kids -settle into one place and settle into a predictable routine in that place -become comfortable with a steady group of friends -lose interest (for whatever reason) in going out, spend more time at home
There's NOTHING wrong with any of these things. Some of them are great. But still, I'm just sayin, some of us are at a different place in our lives and myspace made a HUGE adjustment a bit easier for me, at any rate.
Cheers, M

As usual, M's right on point. Excellent post. I can certainly see where myspace (for example) would make transitioning to (say) Memphis a whole lot easier.

way to go Mary.....telling everyone that I don't have a life!!!!!...well fuck it, I'm getting a myspace account, and become younger, divorced, kids free, transient and a party animal......if I knew this lifestyle was going to be as easy as registering at myspace I'd be a founding memeber.........
(Oh I really am just kidding...I'll remain a pathetic homebody, older married Dad, and paint the house....and fuck myspace...except for keeping tabs on some friends)

apologies for hating on myspace. I am a negative asshole most of the time it seems. Grumpy. I did not know it could be so useful. I just saw my friends and what they did with it and I just thought it was dumb and never looked into it. What do I know? Im still going to resist as long as i can. It would be cool to have a Roald Servo site but no one would know about it. Geez I just bought a cellphone a couple of months ago...I never carry it cos A. I forget and B. If you call me on this phone someone better be dying! Thats not true they are useful. But I see people driving like shit with them in their ear, and at restaraunts, someone gets a call and they talk away while the other person just continues to eat, looking a little neglected. I think that is sad.
On the other hand it helps people communicate--all these high tech gadgets I suppose. Its supposed to enhance your life I guess.........I, personally, dont see it.

I've started using my cell phone all the time -- as an iPod. I (finally) got a new cell last month, and it's one of the Motorola phones with iTunes built in -- so I can synch it with my desktop iTunes and put up to 100 songs on it.
Just got back from walking the dogs (takes about an hour and around three miles to exercise all three), and I was playing it the whole time. Of course, the damn thing decided that it would hit every single slow meloncholy song on there tonight!
Gonna have to update that playlist!

I have a tendency to grow uncomfortable and panic when I don't have my cell phone with me.

I have a tendency to grow uncomfortable and panic when I don't have my cell phone with me. Do you use your cell phone for surfing the net, taking pictures, etc.? I mean, I've always seen mine as just a phone. And now it's a phone and an iPod. It's got a camera, but I've taken one picture with it (of one of my dogs to use as the screen picture instead of the cheesy Moto/Cingular graphics) and that's it. It's got a bunch of other things it can do, but I can't be arsed to use it for 'em. I figure I'll wait two years for my contract to expire, and by then Jobs will have the bugs worked out of the iPhone and I'll replace this with one of those.

Yeah, I surf the net on it, and I've actually posted her several times from it.
I don't take pictures with it that much, though I have to admit when I first bought a phone that had that function, I thought it was the most awesome thing in the world, and took a picture of my dick with it and sent it to my friends.
No, I'm not going to post it here, and I'm not going to send it to any of you either (I've gotten over that phase) so don't bother asking.

If BIOHAZARD ever puts out a new album that would be a good opening track--or did they already do that?
