maarts, perhaps you took my post a little too literally. I don't think you suck anyone's cock. Not that there would be anything wrong with that if you did.
That post was (mostly) directed to that sweater vest and scarf wearing nerd ndy anyway. He stopped taking my Radiohead bashing seriously a long time ago.
However. I will say that the one thing that irks me the most about Radiohead adoration is the comments that always go along with the lists. "Kid A is obvious....Nothing was better...I can't believe they would put it at #3...etc" It's NOT obvious. It just seems at this point, it's the only "credible" album to put in #1. No list from any indie website or magazine is a good list without Radiohead being at #1. I think it's an easy choice that doesn't take a lot of balls to claim it as the best album. I think it pacifies the Radiohead nerds, while maintaining cred. I want balls.
That is all.

>>Better Def Jux than Cash Money,Bad Boy or even Def Jam <<
There's more to hiphop than 4 labels. Every motherfucker on earth should know that. Everyone and their brother has a hip hop label. That's why its really, really grating to me when I hear people say, "yeah, I love underground hip hop" and then have no clue whatsoever as to who, say, THE ARSONISTS are. And people should know their asses, because they made the mistake of signing to Matador way, way back.

What have you done with Dead & Restless?!
You know, the Dead & Restless from the old Rolling Stone msg boards?
You say you're him but you're not!
He was a metalliste deluxe...this, this, 'hip-hop-this', 'DefJam-that'...ahem...THAT ain't metal baby.
He could lecture intelligibly for 2000 words on the merits of Death over Mayhem...not....THIS!
What have you DONE with him?[/sub]

What have you DONE with him? [/sub] ;D[/quote]Heh heh . . . I was kinda wonderin' what happened to the old Dead&Restless, myself. *koff* But if it was just a "phase" you've left behind A&F, have no worry, for I have taken up thine mantle. Admittedly, it shall take many years for me to ever catch up with the extensive knowledge ye had gathered of the darker realm of music, but I'm working on it. I have close ties with the death/thrash/black metal scene burgeoning here in Salt Lake - (my friend Alex heads THE OBLITERATE PLAGUE and he is always corresponding with the guys in Peru from MorteM as well as discussing a possible double-header with King Diamond in the near future) - and my friend/roommate Tony is an incredibly intense guitarist for Obliterate Plague right now (in fact he will perform his last show wtih them this Friday, before he moves on to Vegas), and Tony played in Taught By Birds - a short-lived black/thrash band that rose the bar a bit for a lot of the local scene, despite having crashed & burned shortly after its inception. My other friend Jason moved to Ohio where he is currently in the band SINN, whose bassist is the guy from the thrash act Estuary Of Calamity (now called "Estuary": check out their stuff if you haven't already; er . . I mean, if your former Dead-self hadn't, that is). Estuary are some serious ass thrash masters now, and hopefully SINN will get off the ground & soar soon. I have a copy of NAUSEA's classic LP "Extinction" on order right now -- I can hardly wait to re-experience this shredding piece of classic grindpunk on vinyl (as it should be). It should arrive today or tomorrow . . . In the meantime, SUFFOCATION is arriving into town next week, with Poland's own BEHEMOTH in tow, and by some local scene-arranging screw-up, The Obliterate Plague wasn't inserted into the opening slot, as they should've been for this. In any case, this Friday at Club Vegas I will be in attendance with all my die hard, pure black Hordes friends as LORD BEHERIT opens the evening with their old-school death/thrash assault; THE OBLITERATE PLAGUE shreds the universe with their collosal Lovecraftian Evil Black Psycho Thrash; and my friends Pat & Jodi and Casey will head up the evening with their Psychobilly From Hell act, THE PAGAN DEAD. It will be a night of pure thrashing madness, I can't wait. \m/R.I.P. Dead&Restless...

I'm just pissed with the scene, man. Everything about it right now. No one is doing anything to further the music. Its just rehashes. I mean, okay, the new Behemoth exists and its not actively bad, but its not actively good either. Its not Satanica or Zos Kia Cultus. It might be super good to people who've heard nothing like it, but I own a couple hundred albums in that exact style already, and most of them are better. And its not merely death metal: its black metal (though I can be defensive about BM sticking to its roots, which I have no problem with), doom metal, melodic death metal, etc. 5 years ago I was all about seeing a band like In Flames getting their due. Now that I see what they are now? I don't care. That's not the band I saw open for Earth Crisis. I mean, its sad to think that when I think of innovation in metal, I have to think of Necro and Lightning Bolt.
But yeah. I'm frustrated with pretty much everyone in the scene, the idocy of the old timers who are hanging on, the converted nu-metallers that are buying Shadows Fall albums, the clubs, all that. So, in looking for something fresh with a still breathing and interesting scene, it was time to move on to something else. Luckily The Future Is Now and Fantastic Damage came out.
(ps I've heard of Estuary. I haven't been downloading new bands in pretty much the last year, unless its space rock, stoner rock, or hip hop, so I haven't actually heard them. I know a lot of people who pimp their shit as being pretty high class melodic DM/thrashy stuff)
(pps Nausea ruled)
(ppps So does the entire Master catalog. get it yesterday -l-)

Do they hold a grudge against the White Stripes, not one of their records. I did like Dylan getting a nod in the Honorable Mentions.

Jesus christ that was a lot harder than I thought it'd be. First I was just going to do a top 10, but then I remembered a bunch of albums and decided to do a top 15, but then...
So I finally just stopped at 25.
4 things. Wilco is relatively low because I already had done 20 albums and the top 10 and become impenetrable by anybody. Radiohead should be number 1, but everybody knows about Kid A, but very few people know about the constantines who are so fucking awesome and should be the most famous band on earth. Also, the 12 albums are ABSOLUTELY perfect in every possible way. Lastly, I stuck to a one band, one album just to make it more varied.
[edit] Holy crap I completely forgot about The Moon and Antarctica. That should be at 11, and bump everybody else down a notch.

I read a very interesting review or 2 of that band, Reigning Sound...any further thoughts on that, lunatic...or anyone else? I might've heard of them being mentioned here once or twice...not the way someone like the Libertines or Arcade Fire were raved over...
Is there a 'Mirah' AND a 'Marah'? Marah being the brother duo who did 'The Kids In Philly' disc awhile back...plus another couple that weren't nearly so well-received. The 'Philly' disc was wonderful.
'Stanko' is their name I think...

I don't really know anything about their previous 2 records but Too Much Guitar is really messy productionwise. Everything is buried in the mix, but it works out to sound really good. They're kind of Stones/garage rock. Here's a link to one of their songs that's pretty indicative of their sound: s25.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=27VM721NWVY0F10NY2WTMNIKC1Mirah is different from Marah. Mirah is on K Records so she has that precocious indie sound. Phil Elvrum produces most of her stuff so it sounds sorta like the microphones only more folkish. Here's a song from her most recent album: s10.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=32Y8FGQU8G8J71DAD0923ZRCW4

Probably a controversial choice, but God I love Peter Gabriel's 2002 release Up. This rerally sees him go back to his more experimental roots, try a good range of new and interesting sounds, and it all just works for me. I know how much some people didn't think it was up to his previous work, but bloody hell this thing has been a staple in my Cd player since it was released, and in my opinion it is outstanding, and proof positive that although Gabriel makes you wait a long time for his music, he loses none of his edge.

Britney Spears - Toxic ... 1456. That 50 Cent album 1457. Radiohead - Kid A ...and all is right in the world again.
