www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_albums00s.htmlI take it this is what you all have been discussing. Lateralus at #1 Kid A NOT at #1 Binaural at #7? I guess I should check that one out. Never heard much about it which would mean I never heard much good about it.

I used to rave about Binaural all the time at the former rollingstone.com ... IMHO it's Pearl Jam's second best studio album, behind only No Code (and yes, it's better than Vs. or even Vitalogy!). Light Years just might be my favorite song in the entire PJ catalog. And there are live versions that are even better than the shimmering studio cut.

Hmmm, I'lll have to put that one on my list, Ken. So much to buy, so little time. Anyway, I found a list that not only competes with Rolling Stone's list from last year of top 500 albums. It kix its ass! Check this out: rateyourmusic.com/top_albums

Well, at least I can intelligently comment on some of these titles, unlike a lot of the Pitchfork list ... 2. Kid A (2000)-Radiohead IMO this is overrated studio wankery, but a lot of people love it. Probably needs to be on a list of most important albums of the nuthin's, but it's not a great record. Not IMHO anyway! 3. The Rising (2002)-Bruce Springsteen Now THIS I can get behind! 4. Train of Thought (2003)-Dream Theater I can't get behind this, at all. Dream Theater DEFINE pretentious wankery. 5. Love and Theft (2001)-Bob Dylan Great record, why the hell wasn't it on Pitchfork's list? 6. A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002)-Coldplay Definitely top 100 material, but definitely NOT top ten. 7. Binaural (2000)-Pearl Jam Seems a little high, but then again, in a weak decade a good album might be good enough. 8. Elephant (2003)-The White Stripes I've only heard a couple of tracks, which haven't completely moved me, nor have they left me completely cold. Obviously I wouldn't put it this high up, but lots of guys who I respect would. 9. Hail to the Thief (2003)-Radiohead Nice to see Radiohead's most enjoyable (best?) album get some respect.10. De-Loused in the Comatorium (2003)-The Mars Volta Despite the El Paso connection, I can't get behind these guys, either. Give me Sparta any day.12. All That You Can't Leave Behind (2000)-U2 This has gotten a lot of play from me lately, and IMO it's a great album. Played it back to back with The Unforgettable Fire the other day, and ATYCLB came out on top ... by a fair margin.13. By the Way (2002)-Red Hot Chili Peppers Another great rock album in a decade that didn't have that many of them. This might have made my top ten ... did it even make Pitchfork's 100?15. A Ghost Is Born (2004)-Wilco Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too high.18. SMiLE (2004)-Brian Wilson I think this would've rated significantly higher with me ... top ten, maybe top five?23. American Idiot (2004)-Green Day I think I need to buy this ... 24. Riot Act (2002)-Pearl Jam I love PJ, and I admire the sentiments of this album, but it's nowhere near as good as Binaural. This is too high, IMO.28. How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb (2004)-U2 Not sure if I'd have this above ATYCLB ... probably would put them right next to each other.29. Riding With the King (2000)-Eric Clapton & B.B. King This is waaaaaaay too kind to this effort.33. Is This It (2001)-The Strokes If you factor influence into your rankings, this really should be top ten ... hell, even if you don't, this shouldn't be outside the top twenty.37. Parachutes (2000)-Coldplay This is way too high, IMO.41. Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (2002)-The Flaming Lips Ugh. This is crap. Shouldn't be anywhere near a top one hundred list.43. Relationship of Command (2000)-At the Drive In I tried to listen to this the other day, and it just didn't connect with me at all.47. Streetcore (2003)-Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros Woo-hoo! This would make my top ten, I think ... I really need to do my own list ...50. Busted Stuff (2002)-Dave Matthews Band This isn't a bad record, though I don't know if I'd have it in the top fifty.54. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2002)-Wilco Huh? Top ten. Easily.57. Amnesiac (2001)-Radiohead Waaaaaaaaay too much love for this album, too.63. Los Lonely Boys (2004)-Los Lonely Boys This is a good album, not a great one. Maybe next time around. If this really is the 63rd best album of the decade, we are in deep shit ...71. Greendale (2003)-Neil Young ...um, maybe we are in deep shit. This thing shouldn't be forced on anyone not on a first name basis with Mr. Young.73. Contraband (2004)-Velvet Revolver Not my cup o' tea, per se, but definitely a good album. Definitely merits consideration for this kind of list. 79. Global a Go-Go (2001)-Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros I honestly would have placed this one higher.84. Delivery Man (2004)-Elvis Costello Definitely need to buy this one ... but where is When I Was Cruel on this list?86. Permission to Land (2003)-The Darkness Ugh.97. C'mon C'mon (2002)-Sheryl Crow One hundred best of the decade? This thing didn't make the hundred best albums of the YEAR for 2002. A sad commentary on Sheryl's artistic devolution, and the state of mainstream rock.

Save "Weather Channel" and "Steve McQueen" I was highly dissapointed with C'mon C'mon.

I was perusing that Rate Your Music site, and it seems really interesting. They have best album lists for every year (i.e. 1987), as rated by their users. Of course, there's some crap on the various lists, but there's some really good stuff too. Certainly better than what RS would come up with.
