"1. To no one's surprise, the fan that tossed the drink at Pacer Ron Artest to ignite last Friday's brawl has a criminal record. According to the Detroit Free Press, John Green has been convicted for felony assault with intent to do great bodily harm in addition to three convictions for drunken driving. Wow, that's even a long rap sheet by NBA standards. How come nobody's signed this guy yet?" sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/writers/pete_mcentegart/11/23/ten.spot/index.html

Footage of that brawl made its way into Japanese news too. The fan who threw water at the player, in my very humble opinion, was asking to get beaten to a pulp and I would have had no sympathy for him if he had suffered physical damage from the incident.
This entry from the link though, kind of bothered me:
I realize that the column isn't meant to be taken seriously, but still, the guy who wrote this is a major dickhead. Sure, the golfer deserves nothing but derision for his asshole comment, but surely Chirac didn't commend him for that? So why the fuck does he have to bring France into this? You gotta love bigots like this.

$127m for plastic cup?
November 24, 2004 - 4:08PM
After the Virgin Mary sandwich, it's the cup that supposedly started that US basketball brawl - with eBay bids rocketing to a very silly $127 million.
The cup, said to be the one hurled from the stands at Pacers player Ron Artest last Friday night, was listed on eBay on Monday night but was removed less than 24 hours later when bidding went out of control.
The item was listed for sale by someone from Sterling Heights, Michigan.
In the description of the cup, the seller wrote: "No sports collection will be complete without the addition of this vintage championship collector's edition beer cup. Simply a must for all Artest fans."
There also were several photos of the cup hitting Artest, though there was no way to prove its authenticity.
After Artest was hit with the cup, he set off a melee between players and fans by going into the stands.
Artest was suspended for the season, while teammate Stephen Jackson was suspended 30 games and Jermaine O'Neal 25.

Is it pronounced the way I hope it's pronounced?

Dunno how the proper pronunciation is (probably Tit-least) but I always read it as Titlist.

I easily could be wrong, but I think it's either an alternate spelling, or perhaps an archaic spelling of 'Titlist' like maarts said.
Meaning it's the ball used by the guy with all the titles... in effect it'ssorta saying that the ball is going to earn you those doggone titles...
A hyphen simplifies it...'title-ist'...tho 'tit-leist' is what I see(and hear)when that logo appears...
Boy! That's way too much time wasted discussing that worthless 'sport'...mass hypnosis, I tell ya.

Bits & Pieces
Double take : David Thomas of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram says he recently learned two things from the Philadelphia Eagles official Web site : "First, the Eagles do not approve of the sexy Monday Night Football promo. Second, the Eagles cheerleaders' "highly publicized" 16 months lingerie calendar - featuring all 38 cheerleaders - can be yours for only $13.99."
In good hands : From Dan Daly of the Washington Times : "Give T.O. (Terrel Owens) credit. Not only did he catch the Desperate Housewife without a bobble, he had the self-restreint not to spike her."
More on the NFL skin Flap : Montréal Gazette copy editor Geof Howard : "You've got to love America, where they have the right to bear arms, but not to bare breasts."
Good to the last drop : NASCAR driver Morgan Sheperd, explaining to the L.A. Times why he doesn't think a fight like the one between The Indiana Pacers and Pistons fans will ever occur in his sport. "None of our fans would ever let go of a beer for any reason, much less throw it at somebody."
Leno line : "Finaly some good news for Mike Tyson," said Leno. "He was drafted by the Pacers."

I hope there's still snow at Mt Ste Anne and Phil is skiing his fool head off... Lietuvos Rytas wins ULEB Cup!
The ULEB Cup has a new champion and the Euroleague has a new team from Lithuania. It could be no other way after Lietuvos Rytas dominated for 30 minutes and then held off a furious Alfa Makedonikos rally to win 78-74 on Tuesday in the ULEB Cup Final in Charleroi, Belgium. Lietuvos Rytas came with a scoring reputation, but ruled on defense, holding Makedonikos to 26 points in the game's first 24 minutes. the Makedonikos shooters hit only 1 of their first 13 three-pointers. When Makedonikos started making them, however, midway through the fourth quarter, things got really exciting. Slaven Rimac hit the last to make it 77-74 with 12 seconds left, but L. Rytas held on. Robertas Javtokas was voted MVP of the Final after scoring 14 points and pulling 5 rebounds for the winners. Their top scorers were Tyrone Nesby and Simas Jasaitis with 16 points each. The game's top gun was Pete Mickeal of Makedonikos, with 24 points. Slaven Rimac added 14 points, 10 in the final quarter. Congratulations to the new ULEB Cup champion, Lietuvos Rytas! Apr 19, 2005 Euroleague.net ~ AND the Chicago Bulls actually have a worthwhile team to watch again! Just god, PLEEEASE let them get past Washington.

You must really hate basketball then. That series would be all flash, and no real solid team ball. Might as well put the Harlem Globetrotters in the Finals.
This was exactly the series I wanted. I think the Pistons would have a much easier time with Phoenix than they will with San Antonio, but the Spurs play good ball and they deserve it. This should be a knockdown drag out series. I can't wait.
