I think the ump saw some dust kick up from the catcher's glove hitting the ground and ruled it trapped. I've seen catchers who make a tag in a case like that just to make sure. Oh, there's no doubt that he should have tagged him. Most catchers will go ahead and tag the batter even if they are certain that they caught it if its a low pitch, just because they know that sometimes its hard for the ump to see over his shoulder. So yes, Josh Paul made a mistake in not tagging him, but it was still mostly the umpire's fault, IMO. I actually pretty bad for Josh Paul. He's a guy who's been around for a number of years, barely making teams as second or third catchers on their rosters, and here's his big moment, coming in to play in the late innings of a close playoff game. This will be all he's remembered for.

HOW 'BOUT THOSE CARDINALS! That was one hell of a game. I think that St. Louis may have just grabbed the momentum back. The question now is, can either of these teams beat the White Sox?
At this rate, the Cubs should be in the Series in the next year or two as well. Nice to see someone other than the Yankees playing in October ...

Are you suggesting that history is repeating itself? After the Red Sox won in 1916, the White Sox won the next two World Series (1917, 1918) and of course played in another (1919) that they infamously threw to the Reds. And of course they haven't won since. Interesting that in the year after the Red Sox finally won, that the White Sox now have a great shot at it.
The Cubs...no, I don't think the Cubs will be there soon. It's been a full 100 years since they've won a World Series, hasn't it? Sheesh, that's futility if I've ever seen it.
Albert Pujols is amazing. I can't believe the Astros let themselves get into the position of pitching to him with him representing the go-ahead run. If the Cards can manage to win the next two, then I think that they should have good enough momentum to give the Sox a good run for it. However, I think that the Astros should be able to win one of the next two (they will have Oswalt and Clemens pitching for them, for goodness sake) but maybe be deflated enough now that the White Sox will walk all over them.

I knew in last nights game that the Cardinals would win the minute the announcers started in with all the history of the Astros franchise, and the irony of yesterday being the team's "Birthday". Those things alwalys happen. The game is not over, but the announcers decide that it is, so they start talking as if it is, and then wham-o, it all turns around.

Astros vs. White Sox. How strange.
My dream of a 2006 Tigers vs. Nationals World Series may be possible after all.

If there were any Southsiders here, I'd congratulate them. But I don't think there is, so fuck that. Tigers in '06!

I know I'll have to be happy with a third place finish in the AL Central. Unless they really go nuts with the offseason transactions.

I've been getting a lot of flack around here for totally not rooting for the 'Stros through any of this, but I'm really glad that the Sox won it like they did. I just can't cheer a Texas team. Just...can't.

But I can't get behind an AL team in the World Series. Can't do it. I don't mind that they won, but I hated to see Houston get skunked, even after the 18-inning heartbreaker Atlanta gave up to them.

I wanted Houston to win, but only because of Craig Biggio. Neither team in this year's Series really means all that much to me, but Biggio's career is starting to wind down, and he's put together such an amazing career, playing for the same team for 18 years now. Would've liked to have seen him get a championship before it was all over, and I don't know if that team has what it takes to get back there next year (which will likely be his last season).

Lithuanians in Chicago are by definition 'Sout'-Siders'...they spread south right from Bridgeport (where Comiskey Park was...) through Brighton Park, then Gage Park through their final 'stronghold' Marquette Park. All those strongholds evaporated through 'white flight' with Marquette Park now having become an absolute disaster area, after having been the greatest neighborhood for close to 50 years, with a huge city park at its disposal.
I didn't grow up in Chicago proper, but in one of the western suburbs right on the border of the West-side of Chicago, in Cicero, which also borders Oak Park, a town in which I know you've said you've got some relations.
This put us geographically south of Madison Street which is the divider for the north-south numbering system, so I'm effectively still a southsider.
Just have become bored with Baseball over the years, probably since I stopped playing...
Still the White Sox were an absolute powerhouse in the post-season. I was actually afraid they were doing a patented 1969 Cubs' collapse in the season's last month and a ½. That would have been yet another example of classic Chicago sports futility, but DAMNED if the motherfuckers didn't pull it out!!
...AND to totally put to rest that blown strike call on AJ whatshisname...
Buck and McCarver can finally shut the fuck up.

Damn you, Stros!
I just couldn't root for a team that isn't the Cubs that is from Chicago.

Well, I suppose that if you're a Southsider by default, then I should extend a congratulations to you then. So...congratulations! Actually, I don't have family in Oak Park anymore. They moved to Highland Park a few years ago. But yeah, I used to go visit Oak Park once or twice a year when I was a kid. Lots of good memories there. Also, it looks like I'll be moving to Chicago soon! Any tips on finding a job around there? I'm going to stay with a friend in Wrigleyville for 5 days in the middle of November, and hopefully find an apartment while I'm there, as well as maybe a shit job that can hold me over until I find a real one (which I assume will be easier once I have a local address there). If everything works out, I'll probably be packing things up by the beginning of December.
