To be quite honest with you, I've only heard about 4 Killers songs and hadn't heard that one yet when I threw it on there, but it fit the theme, and I figured I needed some newer stuff in there to shake it up a bit. It's definately not a great song, but its more listenable then you're giving it credit for, JLLM.
That's certainly not the one Killers song that shows any sort of knowledge, it's just the only one that fit onto the 'rock and roll' mix.

Fun board, PunkChick! I came home from my birthday weekend away to find that my dear boy had spent part of the weekend making two mix CDs for me, with cool covers and nifty colours and all. I love him for being the first boy to remember that the way to my heart is through a mix tape. I have to nominate Cantilever by the Church... a little known B - side from the Forget Yourself album, but nevertheless, a darn awesome song, and it particularly went off when I saw them a couple of nights ago. :-)

I'm going to go into a few of the 'Questionables'....and that JUST for their 'popularity' mighty be looked down upon, overlooking their musicality almost completely
Fastball - The Way Whether people turn up their nose at it being 'popular', it's one hell of a perfectly put together song...big Gretsch guitar sound on the choruses...
Urge Overkill - Sister Havana Brutal whipsaw hooks....
Smithereens - Behind A Wall Of Sleep A great underrated band...I hope Dinizio loses some goddamn weight before he kills himself...
REO Speedwagon - Roll With The Changes Despite the Kevin Cronin vocal, this is a rock and roll confection...from the rolling piano intro to the power chords...
Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight...
...tra-lala-lalaaaa....more laters....

Like Ryo, here's my take on Bow's list ... just for the hell of it ... Beatles--Let It Be Rolling Stones--Jumpin' Jack Flash Bowie--"Heroes" Lou Reed--There Is No Time VU--Sweet Jane Joy Division--Love will tear us apart (again) Doors--the play out groove on their final album ... just the merciful sound of the turntable shutting down. Seriously, Break on Through. Elvis Costello--Radio Radio Steely Dan--Reeling in the Years Clash--Clampdown ... or Straight to Hell ... or White Man in Hammersmith Palais ... or Complete Control ... or ... Jackson Browne--Running on Empty Al Stewart--The Year of the Cat Rod Stewart--Maggie May Pearl Jam--State of Love and Trust Midnight Oil--Hercules 10,000 Maniacs--Hey Jack Kerouac Echo and the Bunnymen--All That Jazz Monkees--Stepping Stone Hermans Hermits--no one should listen to Herman's Hermits in 2004 ;-) Lovin Spoonful--Summer in the City Mamas and Papas--California Dreamin Led Zepplin--same as the Doors ... the playout groove on their final LP! Sex Pistols--God Save the Queen Waterboys--Church not Made with Hands (this was my favorite song of 1984! Glad to see someone else mention it.) Pulp--Common People Oasis--Don't Look Back in Anger Blondie--Dreaming Talking Heads--Life During Wartime Graham Parker-Passion is No Ordinary Word Joe Jackson--Is She Really Going Out With Him? Psychedelic Furs--Pretty in Pink Elton John--Benny and the Jets Cat Stevens--Peace Train X--Poor Girl Iggy Pop--The Passenger Aztec Camera--The Birth of the True Dire Straits--Romeo and Juliet Pretenders--Middle of the Road New Order--Age of Consent REM-- this is really, really hard ... um, if forced to choose ... S.Central Rain (I'm Sorry) U2--New Year's Day Pil--Public Image Limited Police--Message in a Bottle Fleetwood Mac--Go Your Own Way Kinks--Art Lover Replacements--Bastards of Young or Can't Hardly Wait

OK, I’ll give this a go, though it’s just about impossible to limit a lot of these down to just one...
Beatles – And Your Bird Can Sing, Back in the USSR, Oh Darling… Rolling Stones – Gimme Shelter, Love In Vain, Wild Horses Bowie – "Heroes" Lou Reed – The Blue Mask, Dirty Blvd., Caroline Says... VU – Foggy Notion Joy Division – Love Will Tear Us Apart Doors – definitely not Light My Fire… geez, I honestly don’t know… Elvis Costello – Too many to pick just one but for today Chemistry Class Steely Dan – Any Major Dude Will Tell You Lloyd Cole and the Commotions – From the Hip Clash – Clampdown or maybe Death or Glory... Jackson Browne – I’m going to cheat on this one and pick "The Rebel Jesus" from the Chieftains Christmas album… Al Stewart – pass Rod Stewart – Mandolin Wind Pearl Jam – Alive Midnight Oil – Read About It, U.S. Forces, Kosciusko... 10,000 Maniacs – The Painted Desert Echo and the Bunnymen – Villier’s Terrace or of course, The Killing Moon Monkees – pass Hermans Hermits – pass Lovin Spoonful – Summer in the City Mamas and Papas – California Dreamin’ Led Zeppelin – Kashmir Allman Brothers – pass Sex Pistols – God Save the Queen, Anarchy in the U.K. or Bodies Waterboys – This Is the Sea Grant Lee Buffalo – Fuzzy, America is Sleeping, Homespun… Pulp – "I’m a Man" plus about a dozen more... Oasis – Are you kidding?? Oh, alright – Rock n' Roll Star Blondie – Heart of Glass, One Way or Another, Call Me... Talking Heads – Life During Wartime Graham Parker – Local Girls Mekons – Memphis, Egypt Joe Jackson – Breaking Us in Two Psychedelic Furs – Pretty in Pink Elton John – Rocket Man Cat Stevens – Wild World X – 4th of July Iggy Pop – The Passenger Aztec Camera – Good Morning Britain Dire Straits – Industrial Disease Pretenders – Precious, Brass in Pocket, The English Roses… New Order – Love Vigilantes The Church – The Unguarded Moment R.E.M. – Talk About the Passion, Radio Free Europe, Drive… too many to pick really... U2 – Again, too many to pick just one but I’ll say "Even Better Than the Real Thing" PiL – Albatross Police – Demolition Man Fleetwood Mac – Think About Me Kinks – You Really Got Me, All of the Day and All of the Night Jesus and Mary Chain – Head On Pixies – Velouria Replacements – um...

You are so WEIRD, Phil. Never heard of New Order? Joy Division? Pearl Jam?!! Truly a different planet you live on there. No matter how utterly beautiful it is, it's still devoid of Joy Division and New Order. (Not gonna say anything about Pearl Jam.. Not a word...)
