I can vouch for Knight though, I reckon, and this community would be no "RS community in exile" worthy of the name without the Advice Loungers around, so my friendly advice is to chill and let this one pass.
Lets leave the troll paranoia behind and enjoy this brave new world.

Nice post Scottsy  It is all escalating a bit, and I don't think it needs to. This place could become all about this issue, rather than continuing to thrive as a new on-line community. I would like to think that enough people have stepped up for Knight that he should be afforded a second chance. If he blows it he's gone for good. Keep it simple and let's move on. I think not affording him that chance will leave more of a cloud on the community in terms of the taste it leaves with all those who consider him a friend. |

I should also say I see that as a seperate consideration to the survey at the top of the board. I don't think trolls deserve a second chance, but like shin, I also don't think Knight's a troll.

Would I do it as a joke? Especially knowing that such things are taboo here?
So these good folks are telling us that Knight was just fooling around?
Maybe he was.
He still KNEW BETTER, and surely he knew that the consequences of dropping a bomb on these boards is expulsion.
Can't imagine what's so damned funny about screwing up the boards.
I'm all for second chances, so maybe I should be advocating giving him one, but it sure irks me that someone who did the very thing that ruined the RS.com boards is considered to be "above the rules" on the basis of a few character references.

This is really stupid. Knight emailed me last night and explained the whole thing. I'm sure if he desparately wanted to get back in he would have emailed strat-o and told him the whole story. But as a over 30 adult who the fuck wants to beg to get back on a message board. I know I wouldn't.
And as far as these people finding "evidence" and what not, give me a break. We have all used different user names and fucked around with each other at one time or another on RS. Knight made a joke, that's all it fucking was. If this place is gonna have lockdown security maybe it isn't the place for me to be. I'm sure about 15 other posters here feel the exact same way. Shin, Someone, Slick, Phaeton, Resovoir, Citizen Dick, Mr.Gordon, Maarts,Dolly, Evac, SuperG and myself can all take responsibility if you let knight back in and something goes wrong. I for one would leave if he gets back in and messed with the boards. This seems to be turning into an "Us against Them" situation which is just stupid. After all this crap I doubt he would even want to come back anymore but lets at least give him the option.
I have a feeling that if this doesn't happen then the board will not be what we want it to be. We will have a lot of pissed off people. I for one like this new board a lot but this situation has gave it a weird vibe. It's strat-o's call since he created the board. I'm sure he will make the right decision.

I voted that trolls and spammers should be given a second change. But I would clarify that in saying that it should ONLY be ONE second chance. You screw up, you're told, and perhaps banned for a day. Then, you're back, you screw up again, you're gone. Mistakes can be made, and second chances can deal with that. I'm in total agreement with those who've said they hope these boards don't get as screwed up as RS did. But the truth is, none of us know who was screwing those boards up, so how can any of us say "it's definitely not ..."?

I don't think trolls deserve a second chance, but like shin, I also don't think Knight's a troll. If it looks like a troll, acts like a troll, then it's probably under your bridge Billy Goat Gruff. I'm sure many of the bombers and spammers on the old board thought their actions were harmless jokes, but certainly made board life unbearable in the process. I'm very much in favor of a ZERO-TOLERANCE POLICY going forward, not just for bombers and spammers but for posters that constantly abuse others (Lysergic Aaron exempted due to sheer entertainmant value). However, I would tend to agree that enough people have spoken up for Knight to allow his "case" to serve as the warning shot, and to let him back on the boards on a probationary basis. |

Considering past history, I feel pretty uncompromising on this troll issue and I voted "No" in the poll but the *bear's making good sense all 'round, including letting this one serve as a warning shot and allowing Knight back on a probationary basis. That seems like a compromise we should all be able to agree on.

Ehh, that equates to 100.9%, rockkid...I knew you always lurked extra hard on %RS Simply said: I'm glad that there's moderation here and I fully appreciate the trouble that you are going through, KayJay and Strat-0. But the only person who can explain is Knight himself. I can't say I know him really well but he has been a good poster on the Adviceboard and I appreciated him.... But good sense's being made all around. Res and Someone- I can hear ya guys too. |

I'm with Bear ... I voted that my brain is mush b/c I think that posters who really are here solely as trolls, or who routinely pull that crap, should be banned. Period. But Knight has had a lot of positive references from people here, and I'm in favor of giving him a second chance. Not a third or fifteenth chance, but a second and final one.
It really does sound like he just made a stupid joke, and it backfired on him in a big way. It happens. He's been locked out for a little while now, and it makes sense to me to let him back in -- but on a zero tolerance policy towards future abuse.
And now I'm off to court ...
