I must say that I'm very proud to see that so many people are standing behind their friend. That's what friendship is all about.
You know, when this place first started up, everyone was wishing they had more contact information to reach other RS posters. That's what I went to Google for - to try and locate more contacts to be able to invite here, as I had posted a few days ago on the Welcome board, before this whole mess had even started up. I have actually found some contacts, which was my goal. I'm far from finished searching, in the hopes that more RSers can be reached and told about this place. During that time (again, before any of this) is when I ran across the "suspicious" stuff - codes that had been used to mess up the original boards. I thought, "well, shit. Even the codes are still here. Damned bastards that used it and made the boards so hard to go through..." Then this happened. I still hope that when this is all over with, if it's agreed by majority vote that trolls should get a second chance (not just this incident, but any future incidents as well), that Knight will come back and join the RS Castaways. If it turns out that the majority doesn't want to take the chance of giving a troll (or someone posing as one - gee, isn't that pretty much the same thing?) a second chance, then that it's known that no one here blames anyone else for what happened, and that no one will think any less of the guy that did it.
It's bound to be tough having to make those decisions alone. Thank God (and Proboards) for polls!

First off, let me get this out of my system....
It's no secret that the "Pearl Jam'-group (I'll call you guys that, Clubber, Res, someone, phaeton, superG, Knight, Pissin, evac etc) is a closeknit group and you know each other to a very high level. I only have to see at the post-numbers that the Advice-lounge is skyscraping the messagetally here. I also see you guys frequently interact with other posters here and ther and that's wonderful- I remember Res stating she was a bit unsure on some boards finding them a bit scary.
I think that's great. I don't know too much about you guys but I think you all are funny, entertaining and smart- even though I'm a bit of an outsider, I like looking in and you have all been friendly to me.
What I don't hope is going to happen is this 'us against them'-thing. We all dealt with individuals on RS who put their own boredom-relief above respecting others and that sort of bonded a lot of us together too. If because of this issue you feel that these boards ain't right, then you also say that the rest of us 'ain't right'. We have only started to know you! So I would find it a huge loss if you did decide to pull out or continue striking.
For once I hope that what we left behind on RS we can leave behind here too. I don't want to philosophize about who has had a double identity and who bombed the boards under another guise...that's now in the past.
Let Knight redeem himself (if there is something to redeem) and let's get on with talking music and films!

KayJay, you mentioned that some people might not want to take the chance of re-instating him... but honestly, what could he possibly do, even if he was the RS spammer we all grew to hate? he either behaves himself and acts like the hilarious guy we all love, or he tries to detonate one more board bomb (which didn't seem to do anything anyway), and he gets banned forever... there's no risk in letting him back in, but if he's banned forever w/out getting a second chance, there's gonna be a real rift on these boards - hardly the atmosphere we all want here. |

If you'll go back a few posts and read my view, you'll see that I'm for letting him back in. I just hope that whatever the turnout is, that things can go on the way they were meant to start with. And I didn't say "him" - I said "a troll" - a general term.  |

Hey Bear, do your field guys and gals call your group Sales Prevention? Always meant to ask. I prefer to think of it as the Cover-Your-Ass-For-The-Examiners Department. BTW, I voted "No" in the poll, but if you had a second poll for a probationary re-instatement of Knight, I'd vote "Yes." Just in case the numbers don't bear that out. |

Bear and Ken make a lot of sense. I started this thread and poll for us to examine the issue. I'm inclined to unban Knight, since that seems to be the prevailing view. However, below I am copying what was posted out of the blue at Current Events (#70) and not on the Advice board, by someone registered as "Heavymetalfanatic." They did not follow it up with any "hey, just kidding" type of thing. To paraphrase Bear, if it looks like a duck and it acts like a duck... Does this post at CE sound funny to you? Look at it and tell me it's a "joke." I'm not laughing, and I'll tell you why. I only had a handful of subs at RS, and CE was one. Many of us watched as it was rendered useless by bombs and this type of shit (along with other boards). I don't know or care who the "real" HMF is, but I can state as a pure fact that this poster had the same ISP# as the two Knight IDs. Knight is back under a different ISP (same email), so if he wants to be "officially" reinstated, he can come forward and speak for himself.
Some of us may have to come to grips with the idea that some of our friends at RS may have actually engaged in the troll/bomb behavior that we dislike so, without us knowing it was them. You can't get away with that here. And as it says on the first message at this site, that behavior will not be tolerated here. If that makes me a board nazi, then ziek heil!

Obviously Knight should have thought his joke through more, cause old cranks like Strat and I, and not knowing knight well, call us crazy, we call a duck a duck... but i'm more than willing to accept it was just a dodo bird not thinking about the consequences. I'm all for a 0 tolerance for him starting now, along with very fair warning for new posters when they come in. "Yeah um,..pretending to be one of those people we really detested on the other boards, and then using some code to try and bomb a board is not a good idea."  |

FWIW, if I had been in Strat's shoes, and saw that post appear here -- what? less than a week after these boards started up? -- I would have reacted in exactly the same fashion. I approve completely of "ban now, ask questions later" when it comes to this shit. And I think it's obvious that there's a lot of support, now that questions have been asked, to allow Knight to come back. But I think it's very clear that future instances of this sort of behaviour, by anyone, simply will not be tolerated. Period, end of story. Just like Strat, I only had a few subs at RS.com, and it really pissed me off to have some of those boards rendered pretty much unusable by bombers and trolls. Whatever, it was a joke, and the more I see all this 'evidence" brought up the funnier the joke seems to me. If people are gonna be tight-asses about the whole situation that is fine. It isn't my board and I didn't put all the time in to create it. The "Pearl-Jam" board was bombed so many times that we couldn't even post there anymore. We had to creat an entire hidden board under a random singers name just so the regulars there could talk to each other. So I understand that people are going to become skeptical about bombings and changed user names and all that shit. However, it seems like a bunch of people came out in defense of Knight and want to see him let back in. The fact that it has taken a shitload of posts to finally unban him doesn't seem right to me. He isn't gonna want to come back after all this shit anyway so all these posts seem pretty pointless. Like I said, I didn't put any time into creating this board so it isn't my decision, but I think this could have been settled a lot easier. Oh well, the drama continues....
