Honestly, I think some people are really unwilling to be reasonable about this whole knight banishment situation and reacting thoughtlessly to the backlash.
Was knight's joke inappropriate? Yes, there's no doubt about that, in hindsight. But as my father always said, hindsight is always 20/20. I have no doubt that knight would think twice before deciding to do a goofy stunt like that, since it's obvious the kind of reaction he would be bringing on himself. But it's also obvious that enough people around here are willing to defend and even leave this board for good if knight is not reinstated, because they know, have oftentimes personally met, and can vouch for the man's character. Surely that must stand for something, if everyone is willing to be reasonable and understand that we're all either friends with knight and want a second chance for him, or we're all trolls playing an extremely elaborate game to get one of our own back so we don't have to do our own dirty work. Which is just plain ridiculous, right?
I'm sure everyone on knight's side appreciates the work put in to make these boards happen, and are grateful to have been given the chance to come here and be part of the RS refugee community. But at the same time, I think it's unfair to basically tell us we're being whiney little punks that should just leave and create our own board so we can have our "precious little knight" back. That kind of bullshit holier-than-thou mentality can be just as atrocious as a board bomb. This is supposed to be a reincarnation of the original spirit of the RS boards, is it not? A place where people with similar interests in music and movies and art and sports and whatever else we want to discuss can come together and enjoy fun conversations open to anyone wililng to at least be respectful to the other posters. Not some stupid elitist, exclusionary club where a handful of people dictate the posting fates of others and then get bent out of shape when others are willing to point out a mistake in the execution.
I realize not everyone around here knows knight, but just take a second to put yourself in our position. What if it were us running this board, and we banned one of your buddies for a silly mistake that we didn't understand? Wouldn't you want a chance to plead the person's case and smooth things over? Would you really just up and leave, create a whole new board for yourselves? I seriously doubt it, I really do. You probably won't admit it, but a mix of anger and pride and a desire to right perceived injustices would make you fight for your friend. It's the same on our side, so stop trying to find a high horse here to preach down on us from.
And another thing: that question is totally unfair. The issue is not whether trolls should be given a second chance, it's whether KNIGHT should be given one. knight is not a troll, but the question here leaves no room for that fact. Trolls should never be given a second chance, that's a stupid question. But knight should, and deep down you know it.

I wrote that post after I read your post about reinstating knight. I still wanted to say all that though, because I felt compelled to respond to some comments on this board. And I had to complain about the wording of the poll question.

I think this is the stupidest crock of bullshit. JAC, man, I love you and all, but that post was a bit overblown. I don't see why everyone can't say, "oh, I guess he's cool, then, let's keep him here." I mean, even if he's not, it's not like he'll do it again. So who cares? What's the deal? I don't understand it. It's like people WANT to make an issue of it. I just don't get it.
I have all the respect in the world for what strat's doing with these boards, and strat, you're a good fella and all, but I don't see where the controversy is here. You did a great job of handling this initially, but the point was proven and everything was cleared up.
JAC's post was a bit silly. Of COURSE all the different RS "cliques" should have been invited here. This place would have been boring as all hell if you just had the coffeeshop crew or the advice guys or whatever the guys that the coffeeshop crew quit getting along with a long time ago are. The thing that makes this like the RS boards is all the meeting and interaction going on.
Rocky and I both noticed right off that the great thing about these boards was how everyone was together and how everyone was setting aside their geeky internet differences for the greater geeky internet good. It was a fantastic thing, and yeah, while this whole controversy and clash of heads was bound to happen early on, I think it's being handled in a really shitty way. Everyone's all freaking out and shit. It's fucking stupid. I say just let Knight back in and drop it. This is so fucking silly.

But, yeah, I read strat's post in the Welcome board now, so I see he's ready to let it all disappear, so I take back anything I said to him about "dragging this shit out." Although I do think it went on a bit long.
And yeah, my previous post was just as overblown as some of those it directly or indirectly criticized.
