I had 4 parts of The Shield's past season in my possession for a full week and never got a chance to see ANY of it...it definitely IS a great show.
But alas, Fx is not a part of our DISH basic package either...
~
I'm thinking about getting started watching this 'Closer' police show with Kyra Sedgewick...anyone know anything there?

I'm really surprised that the show has made it 5 seasons...I've been watching since the begining, and nobody seemed to watch the show during seasons 1 & 2, I'm glad it's still around, but I wonder how much longer the show can go on and maintain it's cred.... 2 more requirements: - Kiefer Sutherland is NOT to direct any more segments - that idiot (but gorgeous, yeah) daughter of his never gets involved in any of the storylines again what episodes did he direct? the daughter is slated to return this season....

I'm pretty sure (like 99%) that he directed all of the third season, which honestly was really damned weak...with THAT daughter getting her ass kidnapped not once but several times in the course of that one 24 hour period....tangled with some survivalist even.
It was always 'OK now how is she going to become the monkeywrench in this plot? THIS time?'
I thought that 3rd season was going to sink the whole franchise...then last year's was a huge improvement.
~
Star Trek: Next Gen also had it's original director leave for a couple of years in the middle of its probably ten year run...and those seasons SUCKED...I can't remember the guy's name, but he did eventually come back, because even the diehard Trekkies were howling 'WTF?!!!'

I hate hate hate Kim. The only thing that would be better then her not being in this season at all is if they bring her in and kill her.

Kim's plot lines have been really lame thus far; hopefully this season she'll have an OK role....
You're right about season 3. While I enjoyed it, it is the weakest of the 4. Season 5 seems pretty good so far, I guess we'll have to wait 20 more weeks to see how it compares to the rest.

Plot device:
'Kim Bauer lands a CTU job completely on her own merits...and in the Los Angeles office'
Plausibility rating anyone?
Then the love affair with Jack Bauer's assistant/right hand man, which they then have to keep 'secret'....
They shoulda lost shitloads of fans over that sorta poor as fuck daytime melodrama...

Well at least they admitted Jack got her the job so he could keep an eye on her...how she got a job doing anything important is a headscratcher though. Still I'd like to see her get killed, probably in an extraordinarily stupid way.

Yeah, why not? It sure seems like they're in a killin' mood over at that show anyway...
True, her old man got her the job....but it was more the fact that it was far from 'entry level'...everyone else in that room was either a geek genius or some sorta paramilitary genius...and there she was.
Eye candy for us, the male viewer but making little sense at all as to why she's there...while her Dad's flying a suicide mission with an A-Bomb somewheres...

Is it just me, or are the first episodes of American Idol suckier than they have been in the past? The producers are so aware of what makes people talk about the show now that they're selecting people and editing everything based on that. The original feel the show used to have is totally gone.

Eh - I can't tell either way. I always thought the "audition" shows were lame and staged. I really don't get into watching until they have the kids go off and form groups. That's when I start seeing personalities, etc. and start carig or rooting for someone.
Reading these posts I have realized that my viewing habits are quite different. Never seen 24 - nor do I want to. It's weird - when it comes to movies I am all about substance and good quality work, but with TV it seems I am the opposite. Here is mylist of shows I try to catch each week:
COPS - yea yea Extreme Makeover Home Edition - I love Ty and it usually is a great reason to cry (hey - that rhymed) Desperate Housewives - although I don't always go out of my way to watch PBS - Americas Test Kitchen, Joanne Weir, Everyday Food and This New Old House are musts Will & Grace My Name is Earl Dateline, 20/20, etc. And my guiltiest pleasure is probably on the WB on Sunday early evenings What I liek About You and Twins. I have no idea what it is cause I don't even laugh that much - but I am strangley drawn to these two shows. But then again they come on at 5pm and that's usually when I break out the wine and read the paper - so it's really the whole habit I suppose.

C'mon, how about Antiques Roadshow?!
I honestly dig the shit out of seeing that old stuff AND then you hear the actual stories behind them...THEN they give the owners heart attacks when they tell them that the blanket that Bowser's been lying on for 3 years is worth a half a mill!! Some occasional cool rock memorabilia...
Then there was the 'Found' show that those two twins from A.Rshow where they'd go to some packrat's home and actually find valuable stuff among their 'treasures'...it validated all the saving that I'd done for years that now my wife is just finishing tossing out...with a few exceptions.

Amp, you know I've always liked you but I think I just gained an entirely new like for you when you said you odn't have a desire to see 24. I'm so glad I'm not the only one!!!!! I'm sure it's a good show, and its' obvious from the comments that people have made around here that it's the kind of show that really holds your attention. But I know some people in real life who keep on badgering me over and ovr and over to watch it. I've told them repeatedly that I'm sure it's a good show but that I just don't have the time to devote to it. But they STILL harass me about it all the time. I even have started to dread the premiere each year because I know the harassment will be taken up a notch.

Count me as one of those who just doesn't bother with 24. I watched a couple of episodes of the first season, said, "eh" and never came back. The whole "real time" schtick just didn't work for me. I don't watch Lost either.
But I can't wait for the next Survivor to start up! Or another (proper) Amazing Race. Americans in India is always a highlight of that show for me.

I'm so excited for Survivor and AR to return. I'm kind of ticked that CBS is waiting through all of Feb to bring back AR. But then again, it'll give me more time to avoid the AR/House conflict, so maybe it's a good thing.
