If you don't like what I have to say, you don't have to come to my board. Actually, instead of that I think I'll start a thread entitled "Do politics keep you from liking certain posters?" and insist that they stick to making posts about drugs and girls, because I frankly find their opinions repulsive and they clearly don't know what they are talking about. 'Shut up and post'!

I have just as much right to my opinions as you do, Lord Shit. Why don't you grow up and get used to it?
So if I don't give a shit about the politics of a bunch of dead artsy-fartsy types, then I'm anti-intellectual. Fine; so be it--I'd rather not have my nose in the air every time I post anyway.
Toby Keith is not annoying to me--if you can call him political. The artists (and people in general) who are blindly anti-war, anti-Bush, anti-anything Republican are the ones I have no patience with whatsoever.

I only have my nose up in the air approximately 94% of the time when i post - sometimes I have to lower my head or I develop a neck cramp. "Artsy-fartsy" - lol.... way to put Picasso in his place!! shit, though - as far as scoring chicks goes, our friend pablo was quite good at that - legendary, even...! (note: as difficult as it may be to believe, not all dead artsy-fartsy types were fags!) And how exactly have you discerned that particular artists are "blindly" antiwar and antibush, as opposed to antiwar and antibush through serious principled consideration of political issues? Cheers, M

With the exception of a handful of musical artists, I don't think that popular music and popular artists have never been so non-political and play-it-safe as they are now--at least since maybe the 50's-early 60's.

So then why would it be hard for you to undertsand that it's just as annoying for the other side when people are blindly pro-war, pro-bush and pro-anything so they can say America is always right? Once again, I hate Toby Keith for many reasons. Only one of which is his politics...another is that shit eatin' grin he has when he talks about said politics. The biggest one though is his dumb fucking songs.

Once again, I hate Toby Keith for many reasons. Only one of which is his politics...another is that shit eatin' grin he has when he talks about said politics. The biggest one though is his dumb fucking songs. I dunno that Toby Keith's political stance has ever encompassed anything more than a very strong support of the war in Iraq, so it seems a little bit harsh to hate the guy just for that...I mean, support of the war is not necessarrily a defining yardstick of a person's political leanings, is it? Even supporting President Bush in this one particular does not equal overall support of President Bush...if you look hard enough you'll find democrats who agree with what Bush has done in the war... All I'm saying is that Toby Keith is not a political singer/songwriter. I've never heard him "talk politics" other than the afore-mentioned POV on the war. And as much as he surely agrees with the lyrical substance of his pro-war songs ("Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue", "The Taliban Song"), if there weren't a substantial portion of the music-buying public willing to buy his CDs on the strength of those songs alone you can bet he would never have released them and noone would know (or care) about his "politics". To "hate" Toby Keith for his "shit-eatin' grin" makes about as much sense as hating Thom Yorke for his lazy eye. Once again, a bit harsh, don't you think? He's probably a pretty laid back guy in real life. You might be surprised. But hey, as far as the majority of his songs goes, and his weak singing voice...yeah, I hate most of those, too...especially trite crap like "Who's Your Daddy?" and "How Do You Like Me Now?"... Some of the worst of a very bad batch of "new country" songs that have somehow managed to slip into the culture. "I Should Have Been a Cowboy" is a decent song, but even that one gets bogged down by Keith's singing voice. That Toby Keith is not a "political artist" is the ONLY thing that I agree with art about in this whole thread.

First, let me explain a few things about my meaning of the word "hate". Of course I don't actually hate Toby Keith. Toby Keith does incompose everything I dislike about war supporters. The particulars of which can be discussed over at CE if you wish. I think if you're going to hate someone it should be someone you'll likely never met, see I if hate Toby Keith then I don't have to hate anyone that actually effects my life. The "shit eatin grin" again, is part of a whole list of reasons I can't stand him. Though the biggest reasons are his dumbass songs. So sure if you take each individual thing I dislike about him then yes, each one is certainly less then hateworthy but if you pile 'em all up...

If I remember correctly, weren't most artists pretty much popular "ladies' men" way back when?

There are two things I've regretted lately... 1. I told Art he should read more books from the library. 2. I tuned him into Houston's conservative talk radio stations. Now he's become a pundit! That picture isn't O'Reilly.........

I understand that personal dislike for anyone regarding his ideological stance depends, to some extent, on how much you care about the opposing ideologies. That being said, art, you might want to rename the board "Do Democratic sympathizers bother you?"

I like to call democratic sympathizers "communists".
