P.S. no one has to say anything about all that grant business. I just figured I had to say something since I had mentioned writing the damn grant proposal on RS, mostly I think I just discussed it with Mary. and why not spil the beans tonight, right now while it's fresh on my mind? one last general thing before I go to bed... Isn't the format of these boards kind of what RS looked like way back in the day?

Yeah, this place looks a lot like RS used to back in its golden age. Why, we could even plug in pictures back then...

Dweezil Zappa and Lisa Loeb need some award for "cutest couple of all-time" or something. They've got this show on Food Network together. So in love, those kids.

This is what RS.com sort of looked like back in the day? Man, you guys must've been there for years. I think I first saw the boards around '99, and joined in December '01.

Yeah, this isn't that different from old-time RS.com as far as appearence goes. The whole thing with subs, knowing when there were new messages on your favorite boards, etc., that's all relatively recent. How quickly we all get spoiled ... I started posting at RS in '98, and really can't believe how callus they've been about just yanking the boards with no warning and no apparent plan as to what they're going to do. There were some major boards overhauls "back in the day" that brought them down for short periods of time, but Ferdman et al would always give us heads ups on what was going down. RS used to be a lot more personal, which was very cool. I know that strat-0 was on the boards back at least as far as '99, and survived more than a few flame wars, revamps, etc. He's a very cool guy (though we haven't bumped into each other more than a handful of times in the last several years at RS.com), and the fact that he's been willing to take on the thankless task of running and moderating this forum says a lot for his committment to this particular on-line community. I for one, raise a great big toast to the man for doing this. NP: The Beatles, Hey Jude

Yeah I've been trying to figure it out and I'm pretty sure I was there January/February 99. I'd just turned 16 that October and started college Spring semester '99. It was so cool when FreeToys would make us these little personalized animations and post them... These proboards here are really growing on me.
Great, now I have the Darkness song in my head.

Oh yeah Lumen, that really sucks about the grant, I'm sorry. Are you gonna try another one?

I think that the long-talked-about rs.cm meet'n'greet should take place in such a way that we can go see lumen dance, and go watch shane simpson's band, and then all go get drunk when holzman and strawman and achnb start talking about bikes. Just a suggestion. Cheers, MI proposed Chicago, this October, for the meet'n'greet, lumen was intending to go to some performance then as well. How did I get left out of the biker's group?

Mary had already headed for the bar before you showed up, Bear. (I have no earthly idea what this particular smiley means, I just thought it looked kind of, well, interesting). NP: Maxwell's Silver Hammer

Hmmm october 2004 eh? I'd be newly 27.... ack late 20s. *freaks out* Um, anyway. Yeah that sounds like it would be great but I'm going to be in absolutely miserable financial straits at that time so I don't know if I could possibly afford to up and go to chicago - you should all come to sf And bear, I left you out of the bike group cause I figured you'd be this creepy hooded guy in the corner, pretending to read a newspaper while you're clearly actually listening to the bike conversation. By the way there's a fine line in real life between lurking and stalking, so be careful! ;P Cheers, M

Strat-O is DA MAN!!! I will hoist a mug in his honor in about 2 hours. And if all goes as planned, I'll be hoisting one in person with him and Karla this September.

LMAO M! Yeah, Bear will be the guy doing a Unibomber look, with his lips zipped up tight. Actually, I think Bear has posted more on these new boards than he did in like six months on "the real" RS.com. All of a sudden he's real talkative ... maybe it's the bike convos! ;D NP: I Want You (she's so heavy)

Bow -- Go to "Graphics for RS Castaways" under the "Welcome" heading and post a message to Karla. She will help you through the process, I'm sure.
