Hello from Boston! Tunes: Happy 27th Birthday!! Hope you are enoying a relaxed and slothful long weekend Well, my mom and my boyfriend got on quite well last night. She was completely, utterly freaked out about his tattoos when she saw them this morning (her eyes got so wide I thought they might just burst out of her skull) but tried to suppress her reaction in his presence. I haven't really had a chance to talk to her one-on-one cause he's been around the whole time but I'm sure after he leaves on Sunday we'll have an interesting conversation!! In any case he's been on his best behavior, utterly charming, and he even cooked breakfast for me and my mom this morning so can she really complain?! I just took the boy to Newbury Comics so he could get a taste of where I spent pretty much my entire adolescence. We picked up a shitload of CDs and records, although I only bought one of 'em for myself - the new Neurosis & Jarboe album. He grabbed some Opeth, Roxy Music, the new Skinny Puppy, These Immortal Souls, and Psychic TV. But we really don't have anything to listen to 'em on around here - certainly don't want to subject my mother to Genesis P. Orridge... We're contemplating going to see Burning Brides at the Middle East tomorrow night, if I can convince some of my other friends who are in town to go along. He still hasn't met any of them, that's tonight's plan! But just showing him around Harvard Square was so much fun, I'm starting to fall, I am.... Cheers, M

Man I don't know what I was so worried about before I came here, I just had the best time hanging out wit all these old "friends" or whatever theuy are. Shit I'm also really drunk, whic is perhaps why I had such a good time. Who knows. I commandeered this guy's car CD palyer and we drove around listening to the neurosis & jarboe album which is fuckkng awesome if i do say so myself, which i do. We reminisced about all these old punk shows and about The Rat, Boston's much-missed old punk venue which shut down in 1997, and about this party where this idiot was palying this GG Allin video and I got all pissed and stormed out dramatically - apaprently everyone remembers this!! The boy had a great time too and is sound alseep in his bed. This week is going to be aweomse, although my typing, apparently, will not be awesome.
By trhe way on a completley random note what hte fuck is up with sychronized diving?? Is that really an olympic sport? Is that not the single stupidest sport on the face of the earth? And you know you're a really fucking stupid sport when you're even stupider than curling. Why would anyone want to perform sychronized dives?? Why would anyone care? What talent does this display? What is the athletic or aesthetic value of two people doin gthe same dive at the same time? Surely this "sport" exists for the sole purpose of inspiring drunken mockery.
I can't think of anything else worth saying.
Cheers, M

Oh wait, yes I can. I burned two Birthday Party compilations. I only intende dot burn one, but there was this weird problem that involved a hidden track on Hits that was fucking up the proper track recognition, so the first CD came out all mangled, in teh wrong order, and ended with two straight renditions of Mutiny in Heaven. But I mean, it's still OK. Then I re-burned another one in the proper order that i really intended it to have. so the point is, I have these two birthday party mix CDs and i'd be happy to send them to anyone on heere who is interested, though again, one of them is kinda fucked. but still fine and it's free so who can complain raelly? and besides mutiny in heaven is such af ucking awesome song that ther'es no reason on god's green earth why you wouldn't want to listen to it twice in a row, and frankly, this just saves you the trouble of hitting the previosu skip button, thus doing you a favor.
erm anyway - so, anyone want a free birthday party mix to figureo ut what i've been on about these past few weeks?? just ask and ye shall receive.
if you have any doubts, just gaze into the crazed, maniacal eyes of the young nick cave in my avatar. don't you want to know what diabolical musical creations this god-on-earth created? yes? yes? i knew you did.
Cheers, M

Although we might give those pesky Canucks a close run in the coxless fours.

Mary, you can send me a Birthday Party mix. I'd be curious to hear them, after all the discussion about them between you and Ritalin.

And didn't I tell you so that everything would be alright?

I don't find the Grateful Dead boring. They're a comfort band.

wow, last night's drunken posting fest was quite fun. expect another one tonight, assuming i'm not so wasted that i'm incapable of walking upstairs....
punkchick, the proper birthday party mix is all yours. when i return to california i will be happy to send it your way - you might have to email me your address again, though, i'm not sure if i've still got it.
anyone who wants the out-of-order mix can still have it, too. it's not bad, it just doesn't really flow very well and begins on a bizarre note (with deep in the woods, instead of sonny's burning, which is atypically dirge-like and slow, not much of an opening song)
well, i'm perfectly sober now and i'm still convinced that sychronized diving is absolute the stupidest sport in the history of athletics.
i have to confess the trampolining is kinda fun to watch, though. i like watching anything that involves an imminent risk of death or paralysis. makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
all righty well i'm off to grab some grub, walk around inman square, and then go see the burning brides.
Cheers, M

I suppose you won't have frontrow-seats when the synchronized trampolining will be on either, right, Mary?
I must say though that I find it very interesting to see the synchronized diving though- two bodies twisting in gravity, forced to do exactly the same thing to impress the judges.
Talk about stupid athletics- the steeplechase! Why do humans want to go through the same kind of stress as horses do at Badminton or any other eventing-venue?
