I don't know what Snapdragons look like CHrisfan, but they definitely have the coolest name.

They're cool. You sqeeze them in the middle and their "mouths" pop open. My grandmother taught me that years ago. So, I have them planted around a hydrangea (my other grandmohter's favorite flower) to make my "grandmother's garden". It's right by the garden with all the hostas planted for various members of my family.

I am completely incapable of contributing anything to a thread about flowers. Sometimes I wonder if I'd be able to distinguish a weed from a bouquet of roses. You're all putting me to shame once again. I can, however, contribute this.... 10 Flower-Related Songs, Albums, Album Covers, Artists, or Lyrics1) Sally Go Round the Roses - a song by the Jaynettes 2) Flowers of Romance - pre-pistols band featuring Sid Vicious, Siouxsie Sioux, and others... also the name of a PiL album 3) "The geraniums on your window sill/The carnations, dear, and the daffodil/Well, they're ordinary flowers/But they long for the light of your touch" - lyrics from Bring it on by Nick Cave 4) Bed of Roses - a song by Bon Jovi (sorry Rileydog!!! but this is hard, I'll take whatever I can think of!) 5) The Day of Wine and Roses - an album and a song by The Dream Syndicate 6) Garden of my Mind - a song by the Mickey Finn 7) Dead Flowers, Bottles, Bluegrass, and Bones - an album by the Swingin' Utters 8) The Tiger Lilies - the name of a band 9) Where the Wild Roses Grow - a song by Nick Cave (due with Kylie Minogue) 10) The cover of Bloodletting by Concrete Blonde: Cheers, M

I'm totally clueless when it comes to botanicals ... but here are Ten More Flower Related Songs, Albums, Artists, etc.
1. Guns and Roses, once upon a time these guys were a rock and roll band. 2. Mighty Like a Rose, Elvis Costello album. 3. The Rose of England, song by Nick Lowe. 4. English Rose, song by the Jam. 5. Flowers in the Dirt, Paul McCartney album. 6. Pink Carnation, another song by the Jam. 7. Nothing But Flowers, beautiful, hilarious song by Talking Heads. 8. The Yellow Rose of Texas, official song of my adopted state, I believe. 9. Axle Rose, lead singer for aforementioned former rock and roll band. 10. Lima Beans, really bad (but somewhat funny) B-52's song.
And that was really, really hard!

The band Mountain had a GREAT live disc called 'Flowers Of Evil'....FWIW. That IS a literary allusion innit? Burroughs perhaps?
~
I have not knowingly heard even ONE of those 10 songs Riley cited as 'Faves Of 2004'....tho the bands' names were all familiar from here. There's one with-it Haligonian banker!
~
Only a Frenchie/Francophile/Quebecois would even KNOW that there are at least 10 types of Sunflowers.
Saulegrazos(Lith), fields of them are definitely quite cool, in a Mesozoic gigantism sort of way...
~
Glad if I could be of just a little bit of help, lumen...

ooooh I gotta beat Phil to this one...
"Flowers of Evil" is a reference to Baudelaire, of course. Les Fleurs du Mal ....
