Proud, fresh tomatoes are tough to beat. In BLT's, or toasted tomato sandwiches...it's all good.
Phil, tonight's supper sounded great, but where's the beef? ;D

i honestly have never eaten a raw tomato. in fact, i don't i've ever tasted any part of a raw tomato. unless you count ketchup. I'm quite appalled here. Phil - I'd add fresh tomato w/ mozarella cheese (the uncooked, unmelted variety, mind you) to that list.

i don't eat BLTs, really... i eat BLs, maybe Bs. actually, i've eaten some raw tomato slice things on burgers, but we're talking, like, fast food for the most part. fast food isn't real food.

I was gonna do a top ten sushi list, but then I realized that I have no idea how I could describe, much less translate, some of them in English

God Mary, I'm so sorry. I can't even imagine what you're going through right now. I always find it hard to wrap my head around the concept of never being able to speak to someone again too... but especially in this case, when it was someone who was such an important presence in your life for so long. Add another hug from me too... take care of yourself as best you can, OK? Glad your boyfriend's being supportive too - it's too hard to go through something like this alone.

And as for tomatoes - I can't imagine life without them. Phil is making my mouth water... I had tomato plants last year, and now am really wishing I had replanted them!!

So this morning the first thing I see when I walk into my office on one of those rainy days where all you want to do is stay in bed, is not one but two cds from one of the music boys I am getting to know here. I mean how cool is that? This whole getting to know new people, and people who have similar interests is so cool. re: tomatoes I don't mind them (in moderation) when they are cooked or sundried, but I can't eat raw tomatoes. The texture is just way too funky and not in a good way.

I despise Raw tomatoes, unless you slice them really thin, soak them in olive oil, and top them with feta. Otherwise, uh-uh, no way. Grossness. The things don't even taste like food.
Until you cook them, that is! I cook with tons and tons of tomatoes. Broil them, grill them, fry them (fried green tomatoes...look out, I'm the master), stuff them, anything. As long as they're not raw, I love them.
Although I do despise any and all kinds of ketchup. Ugh. Worst food on earth.
My mom came in town the other night, and I made a side of broiled tomatoes topped with basil, oregano, garlic powder, olive oil, and just a sprinke of mozz cheese. Main course were these lasagna rolls I make...
-Boil lasagna noodles -Simmer up chopped crimini mushroom caps, garlic clove, onions, and fresh chopped spinach -Season with pepper and salt, to keep the veggies juicy -Add ricotta cheese -Put mix in lasagna noodles, roll up, drizzle with olive oil and top with sauce made of... -Chicken broth -Gorgonzola cheese -Mozzarella -Heavy cream
Vegetarian delight, it is (well, minus the chicken broth, I guess, and there's certainly nothing vegan about all that cheese...) Went down wonderfully, then I ate a huge chunk of this Kahlua cake my grandmother makes...wow.
Goddamn, pigged out on Labor Day, too, made these delicious burgers, fries, and mozzarella sticks. Went for quite a run this morning, plan on eating grilled chicken, veggies, and rice for the rest of the week.

God, I can eat raw tomatoes every day. The really good beefsteak ones, I can even eat like an apple, with just some pepper and salt. Mmm.
And I could live on toasted tomato sandwiches... fresh bread, sliced tomatoes, salt and pepper and mayo. And I love them sliced up with some purple onion and feta and soaked in olive oil, like Luke said.
The only way I DON'T like tomatoes is sundried. Yech.

I don't like those squishy sundried tomatoes that come in a bag, but the really dry ones I can chew up all day. Essential ingredient in any feta salad worth it's...er...lettuce.

See, I just can't get over the consistency of them, I don't know why. Anytime I order pasta or salad or anything that has sundried tomatoes, I ask them to hold 'em.
Different strokes and all that...

There's only two things I have to say about tomatoes (and I never thought this would be a place where I'd say 'em, but still...).
First up, they've been in a crap B-movie. Secondly, the small ones - baby vine tomatoes, sweet cherry tomatoes, etc - are well nice in a Greek salad.
Oh, and don't forget to eat 'a grilled tomato with yer full English fried breakfast.
