Jesus: rockdoc, I was wondering about that Dreaming pick - whether you meant the Kate Bush album. Easily her most interesting, varied album, but I never saw anyone peg it in a list as her best work before. Great choice.
I was absolutely floored by that album when I first picked it up (in white marbled vinyl no less!)upon its release in 1982. I'd within that time done a pretty radical about-face in my music appreciation after my girlfriend at the time turned me onto progressive bluegrass in the guise of the David Grisman 'Quintet '76' album (BLEW me away) and from thereon in, there were shitloads of 'out there' bands (and musical forms...Georgian choral polyphony, anyone?) that got all my senses jumpin'.
Or wait. Maybe it was the drugs....
I wish I could remember whose review sent me to that disc, but god bless whoever it was.
Suspended In Gaffa is the one song from there that I love totally for the goofy happiness it's always shown me. But the rest are also similarly stunning...with the harrowing crescendo to Get Out Of My House being the epitome of hurt and anger. I gotta hear the new one.

Yeah, "Pull out the Pin". Very evocative too.
I don't think it's as consistent as 'Hounds of Love' or as polished as 'Sensual World'. But it was a hell of an album to bring out when the world demanded and expected the same pretty piano ballads we'd enjoyed on her first 3 albums.

Re Kate Bush's 'The Dreaming' disc being a departure for her....shit I never had any expectations for a 'safe' disc because I never knew she had other discs.
The Dreaming was daring as hell to my ears...pretty much a hugely enticing kitchen sink / smorgasbord of 'Let's try this; let's try that' that I lapped up like I hadn't had a meal like that for years.
As much as I loved Hounds Of Love, this 'consistency' you speak of still couldn't budge me from The Dreaming's crazy eclecticism as having to be my fave Bush disc...so far as speaking of Georgian choral polyphony, there's even a song there that samples one of my favorite pieces of that type of music!

Sorry 'bout this guys ... my life has been a bit busier (and a hell of a lot messier) than I'd expected during the past ten days, and so progress on this beast of a list has been slow. I can tell you this much, Achtung Baby is ahead of Blonde on Blonde at this point. I'll try to get it wrapped up very soon ...

Can't believe I overlooked the fact that Thorn listed only Floyd and Zeppelin at the top of his list. You rock, lad.

Has this thread reached the point where we start slagging off The Doors yet? Or do I wait until after Ken drops the top 25 results?

Wait for it. There's plenty of time. Feel free to prepare some material in advance though.

my conscience is clear, however. since i included both Piper and Robert Johnson in my list. i have a feeling that i'll be getting a Congressional medal for this bit of foolery heroism.

There is never, and I mean never a time to slag the Doors...be very very careful..any cavalier slagging may lead to a visit, in the throes of your deep slumber, by the shaman himself...........be very very scared... Has this thread reached the point where we start slagging off The Doors yet? Or do I wait until after Ken drops the top 25 results?
