I wouldn't say "Kick Kiedis out of the band," but I would say "Let John and Flea do an instrumental record together." I'm not a fan of John's singing, anyway. It's okay, but it's the guitar I really care about.
My worry with Kiedis is, as his vocal prowess gets better and better, his execution gets worse and worse. It's the old, "The better a vocalist he gets, the worse of a rock singer he becomes."
Been re-reading some of those old classic rants by Albini...hilarious stuff, that guy's such a dick.

Love the new album. That is all.

On my second listen, and I have to say that the bouncy stuff jumps out right away. Charlie, Hump De Bump, Torture Me... stuff like that. Still have a lot more to listen to, but damn...
I wasn't moved either way on my first listen, but that's a good thing. If I'm neutral about an album or dislike it the first time through, the more likely I'll end up being in love with it. Don't ask why.

It's usually like that. If you like something too much on first listen, it's typically a sign of no substance.

I think "Make You Feel Better" is the best feel good song I've heard in a long time.

I am a huge fan of "Animal Bar". That has been my favorite so far.

"Make You Feel Better" is indeed a great track. "Animal Bar" sounds almost like vintage INXS... which is a good thing.
So far, my standouts are "Storm In A Teacup", "She's Only 18" and "21st Century" which sounds like the type of song you'd hear in a Tarantino flick. The whole 70's funk vibe thing...

I'd prefer Stadium Arcadium with less midtempo numbers & I agree with the Kiedis' vocals having improved, but lyrically he's sliding.
I like this album, though I could easily cull it down just like I did with Mellon Collie (makes a super-fine single disc, that one). Theres nothing ground-breaking here, whatsoever. Its kinda like a novice guide to the Chili Peppers sound for people who already have the greatest hits but don't know anything else about them.

There are no real stinkers on SA so that's why it's probably hard to pick the standouts. And by stinkers I mean songs you just can't listen to. Californication had "Porcelain", "I Like Dirt", "Saviour" and "Right On Time" which were all garbage (and that album had 15 songs, not 28) so the good tracks jumped right out and grabbed you immediately. By The Way had the borefest "I Could Die For You" and "Cabron", otherwise it was a pretty strong set.
The only song on SA I can't stand is "Strip My Mind". Fucking terrible. They should've saved it for a b-side, as was intended originally.

Oh, and I agree Layla that there are a few too many midtempo tracks. Had only a couple of them been replaced with a couple more funk-rock workouts, would've made the album even stronger I think.

Its alleged these 28 were the best of what could've amounted to a 3-disc (or more) set. SA is consistent, but yeah, lacking in immediate brilliance, which implies the songs that didn't make the cut are probably cringe-worthy.
I think 'Hump de Bump' was a typo. Yes. Or maybe the Black Eyed Peas snuck in & fucked around with the lyric sheet. Kiedis' brain is too drug-fucked to have noticed.

lol. I thought of the Black Eyed Peas too when I saw that. Which is why [sadly] that would probably work as a hit single. I like that tune though, but that chorus lyric is just bad.
"Especially In Michigan" was also a last minute addition. As great as the music is on that one [the type of song U2 have been trying to write for years] those lyrics and that title are just horrible. Bono could've done wonders with a tune like that...

You know what I love about the new RHCP album?
The fact that Muse probably have a new album coming out later this year.

You know what I love about the new RHCP album? The fact that Muse probably have a new album coming out later this year. Ha ha. Too bad Muse try to record The Bends every time they step into the studio. Dizzamn! Burn! I kid, I kid. I heard some of the new album and all I can say is, "ugh. californication all over again." I really dig "Dani California," but I also really dug "Scar Tissue." The rest of the album takes so much from it. Just my opinion. They're still one of the most talented popular bands in the states right now. Just don't do anything for me anymore, I guess.
