i get the feeling that if i speak on it anymore, not only will i lose, i'll singlehandly convince everyone that Alvin and the Chipmunks sings the Blues is the greatest of all time.
true though, i enjoyed reading all that. I've been arguing with Shin over music ever since i knew him. the first thing i ever tried to push on him, about 3 - 4 years back was Flipper's "Sex Bomb Baby".
that was diasastrous.

I've been prompted to revisit the VU & Nico, and I'm listening to "Femme Fatale" as I catch up on this thread and type this. Hard to debate some of the "ahead of its time" cred this entire release garners, but can I go on record once again by suggesting it would be even better if Nico had called in sick. Her voice is flow threatening and this song in particular sounds like a fucking tampon commercial, even with Chilton later doing his own take. Awful awful fucking song. Wow...no one's ever agreed with me on that before.

The only difference between Nevermind and In Utero is Butch Vig and Steve Albini.
That said, Albini > Vig.

im sick of hearing about the god damned beatles. the beach boys? fuck no the velvet underground? maybe if youre one of the "cool" people dylan? he wrote some great songs, but never an album full...there were always a few clunkers rush? ummmm......no the best album of all time is whatever you want it to be..... therefore i proclaim that the greatest album ever is: ten songs of pure unrelenting rock and roll fury from two guys who pound for pound deliver more rocking than any of the aforementioned pansies. this is what a rock album should be. no hype. no bullshit. and it has josh homme on it too. I think you meant this: Fifteen unstoppable tracks of pure ass kicking, and there's even a theme. And Joe Daniels owns St. Clair. An it has cat's meowing. And it has a DeLeo on it, too. But hey, not to nit-pick, no dissention in the H ranks, I say.

And to quadruple post...
I honestly believe that London Calling has ALL the good traits you guys have hyped in the White Album, ALL the good traits you have hyped in VU & Nico, and NONE of the bad. And there's no sell-out fuck that makes the most important musical artist of the 90s say, "I don't want to end up like Pete fucking Townshend."

Um, obviously Here Comes the Zoo is vastly superior. DeLeo? How about Homme and Jerry Only. And none of this "Joe Daniels owns St. Clair" nonsense.

so, i was away for the night and i missed the convo. but it has come to my attention that Shin listened to VU&N this night. Any revelations, Shin? Other than I've never been more right about a band before in my life, no.

So can I let Luke's eloquent endorsement of London Calling stand without having to write a book about it? You guys all know what I'm gonna say about LC, but Luke really summed it up perfectly here. All the positives, none of the negatives, simply the greatest rock and roll album of all time. And I can't believe that Shin doesn't at least like Heroin ... and Sunday Morning ... and Venus in Furs ... and Waiting for the Man ... hell, I can't see how anyone who loves rock and roll enough to engage in this sort of discussion can NOT love at least 1/2 to 3/4 of the songs on The Velvet Underground and Nico. Even if you don't like Nico's voice, it's perfect for All Tomorrow's Parties.

London Calling? best of all time? no. i'm with Shin on that.
as for VU&N, Shin's just wary of pretension. Fair enough, except that he's picked the wrong enemy, and is therefore missing out.

Personally, I can't stand Heroin or Sister Ray, there are VU songs I like but those aren't them.
