Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I've been too busy and too broke to g anywhere near a record store this week. That's what I hate about teacing - you work for the council and therefore get paid on the last day of the month.
At least it's Feb - Tuesday - HMV here I come. They better have a copy or I'm smashing stuff up.

I've read favourable reviews too Paul, my Kinkslovin' transatlantic pal, but I can't read that right now. One gin - my first alcoholic drink since NYE, and I'm sloshed like a bastard. Shitebadgers.

I could pretend here that I'm normally hardcore, but I'm a lightweight. It's true.
I'm really excited about the Ray album - I've been too busy to think about it the last week or so (hence no posting either) but I have been listening to lots of Arthur and Village Green in readiness.
Do you know when you've been to two perfect gig within the space of a month and you know that nothing could surpass them ever? That's how I feel about checking out new gigs at the moment. It's kind of depressing actually. I figure I might actually have to find out where Ray lives and stalk him.
I wonder if he moved back to the UK now he's finished his album. He belongs in London does our kid.

Some of the reviews I've read say he's been living in New Orleans; since Katrina I don't know if he's still there or not....
When I see an amazing gig (like I will March 20th); I typically go to the underground again and see lots of the local DC bands....It helps get me grounded again.

So, Arthur vs. VGPS; which do you like more?

Ooooh. I actually started typing out a response to your Arthur vs VGPS question this morning but it sounded really lame and wishy washy so I thought I'd wait until I was more awake and could construct a more coherent response.
Guess what, I'm still incoherent. I'm sleep deprived and I've got backache and I'm actually in a bit of a grump, in spite of my ideal job being advertised as if by fate this morning.
But I digress.....
Hmmm. Shit. Well. Ok.....
I've been familiar with Village Green for far longer and have the lovely shiny triple disc version which I love so much that sometimes I just sit and stroke it and marvel at how handsome Ray actually was when he was younger even though he wasn't officially the pretty one. I do. And the songs are pretty f**king great too.
Title track, Village Green, the groovin' Picture Book and Johnny Thunder, Big Sky (a personal long-time favourite) and 'All of my friends were there' How in God's name was that album not a success when it was released?
Also, I've seen four of the songs performed by Ray very recently (though I stil can't remember the blasted 4th one), and so the songs have been brought to life for me.
However, finally having got a proper copy of Arthur, I've been listening to it pretty heavily for the past few weeks and it has definitely taken second place in my Kinks album list. How come I never really appreciated Victoria that much until recently? Love the bassline. But he played none of those songs in his set, sadly - maybe if he had.....
But currently, VGPS still gets my best rating, though it is very very close. I can't actually decide which of the two was The Kinks pinnacle in terms of creative genius, but I now think that it was either Arthur or VGPS, as opposed to Face to Face, which is the belief I held for many years.....

That's a fair review....most people I've talked to (who know both albums) seem to be split between the two, but seem to agree that those are the best albums the Kinks have to offer.
I guess I'm more of a rock guy, so Arthur edges out VGPS for me. However, IMHO Arthur, VGPS, Something Else, Face to Face, Lola, and Muswell Hillbillies are all neck and neck....

Damn! Muswell Hillbillies! Yeah, that certainly holds its own. I was really stoked when he played Oklahoma USA, and 20th Century man is always a winner.
I would probably agree with the neck and necking, except with me being so delightfully quaint and English, Village Green edges it for me. It's true actually, the title track really does take me back to living in a green English country village (until the age of 7) when the whole town was buzzing because Princess Di was driving past so there we all were in our best little tea-dresses waving our plastic Union Jack flags - I'll actually have to see if I can get hold of that photo - hilarious....
And we used to go to church fates where there would be all those flag strings everwhere and everone would be seeling cakes and scones and making arrangements to meet each other at the village cricket match the next day.
It really was like that and I feel genuinely nostalgic for that world which just doesn't exist here anymore. *sigh*

That's great to hear Bow. Of course, I'll be getting mine on Tuesday - I hate that I didn't get it on release, but then I remember that the reason I've run out of money is because of my London trip to see Ray - that and the start of my lawschool loan repayments It's looking good so far. I'm impressed with the songs I've heard so far, though I wasn't convinced by stand-up comic, I have to say - but it could be a grower. The Tourist EP is really good - not that he'll have any kind of chart success with it, of course.

...although I'm a bit worried that since the 'arena rock' albums did better in the States that he may play those (Sleepwalkers thru Word of Mouth albums circa 1976-1984) instead of the classic British albums (1964-1971) that I love him for.
