I really like the first 5 tracks the most, and Planet Of Sound may be my tops. What about you?
Perhaps the reason I'm liking Trompe so much is b/c like you, I think I just may know every track on Doolittle/Surfer Rosa. Both are fine albums, but if this tells you anything about how sick of both I am, both have been FUBAR (fucked up beyond all recognition) since the early part of this century, and I have yet to replace either. I'll always love both albums, but I'm just very, very sick of them. It's kinda how I feel about Blood Sugar Sex Magic by the Chili Peppers.
As for Mr. Davies tour, I would bet my bottom dollar that he does basically the same thing this tour as last. Funny how he said he wouldn't want to be nostalgic, but that's exactly what he's kinda doing. But, you never know....hopefully he'll change the sets a bit and throw in more from Something Else, Arthur, and Muswell. When I saw him, he didn't play one track from Something Else or Arthur. I was kinda surprised as I looked at most of his set list and both of those albums were severely neglected last go around.

Us Kinksters (bwarf) don't feel at all threatened. I did start off on a merits of Darkness v Nebraska ramble, but I thought better of it. so there. LOL -- I bet that JLLM will be calling you his "little Kinkster" if he doesn't already! Darkness v. Nebraska, discuss ... Sure Ken. Lemme give it some thought I think I'd dissolve into a fit of the giggles if anyone called me a kinkster out loud. Especially in the heat of passion.

Think I'll have to dig it out again and get back to you on that.

Yeah, that's what he does all right. I don't begrudge him it - though seeing him for the third time I would like to see something more this time. Perhaps he will as WAC is generally quite an eclectic crowd. Here's hoping!

awesome.
I'm still reviewing my Bruce albums...got side tracked lately by getting on a massive Sonic Youth kick, but I want to give Darkness a few more listens before I write anything about it.
Oh and Dolly, I haven't forgotten about Muse - I still have really just given those albums the once over, and I'll listen with more detail soon - lately though I got on that SY kick, plus been listening to some Bruce, and Beastie Boys (new album July 10 - US, July 9 UK).
Soon, I'll be on a Wilco kick once the new album is released.

I've heard three songs from it, and have liked all three. I emailed a bit w/ Rocky after he split, and he told me he could send it my way if I was interested, but I told him I kinda want to be spoiler free. I've read about it, and from what I gather from early reviews it's like a AM/Summer Teeth throwback w/ a dollop of Mo-Town. IMHO they don't have a bad record, if anything there big flaw is they've been too good, and the expectations are set too high for them now. A lot of folks seemed to not be thrilled w/ Ghost, but I love that one, and I'm looking forward to the differences/stripped down sound on the new one.

With the new one the playing is there...some really choice leads from Nels, but the song writing just doesn't stick me. Impossible Germany is the only song that ever gets stuck in my head after. I don't think it's like AM at all and it's only like Summerteeth in the sense that it's mostly slower and mid-tempo stuff. I still don't think it's bad album...I actually quite like it but I still think it's pretty easily Wilco's most disappointing album. There's just nothing immediate or essential about it.

Soon, I'll be on a Wilco kick once the new album is released. It's not good. So Fuzz, you don't like it at all? Not even Impossible Germany, and the song right after that (#5 maybe)? I gave the album the once through yesterday via their website....kinda like ded said, I don't think it's bad by any means, just nothing much really grabbed me either. One thing that may take a while for me is Tweedy's vocals. He doesn't sound like a lost troubled soul on this album, and it's a bit odd hearing him a bit more upbeat. The vocals sound good, it's just that some of the emotion seems to be lacking. I don't know, it's hard for me to write about music...I go on vibes/emotions/feelings - describing how I feel about is kinda difficult - but something seems missing on this new record, but I can't quite place it after one listen.

I think Rocky said it best, that the songs are ddecent, but the instrumentation and arrangements are shit, totally wasting Cline's guitar. Sky Blue Sky is a nice track, and so is Walken, but that's about it. The rest is pretty MOR-ish, soft-rock.

I dug Walken too - so, Impossible Germany?? They flip out during that song, kinda reminiscent of At Least That's What You Said from Ghost.
What did you /anyone reading this think of Ghost?

I think it's the opposite, I like the instrumentation but the song writing seems somewhat lacking.
I liked Ghost, I've been a little less impressed with each album since Summerteeth.

^^^ From my one listen, I kinda agree w/ you here. The music was pretty good, although it did seem a little forced in places - like they may have been thinking hey, this song is mellow, lets put something weird in here on cue just to mix it up - I reckon what I'm saying is it doesn't feel as organic as their other albums. Seems to be a lack of emotion if that makes any sense. Summerteeth is awesome! I don't know if its my favorite, but its the one I listen to the most. I really love the title track, and "Candy Floss" - they actually played that live last time I saw them at the 9:30 Club. From what I understand, they never play that, so it made it all the more special to hear it. On a side note, ded, I just noticed your recent play list - Nice! I've been listening to some Eric B and Rakim myself lately
