Well, tonight is the night we've been long awaiting: the Nihilistic Death Festival blossoms its deadly petals open to embrace all of us sick, depraved worshippers of these unholy seeds of impending dominion. This is the Night of DAAAAARKness we've all been awaiting, the lineup will be featuring several out-of-state guests including ANWYL of Kansas: This is an incarnation of what they're calling "PLAGUE METAL" . . . I am ready to be infected. Here is a brief synopsis of what to expect from our Kansas - inmates of skullcrushing thrash:
DKCD029 ANWYL(Usa)"Postmortem Apocalypse"CD03 "Harsh Evil Black/Death Metal. Without doubts the the most extreme and brutal album ever released by Drakkar Productions."
The Onslaught of the most Violent Metal ever to be unleashed under the Infamous Drakkar Productions Mighty Banner in their 9 year history and the 1st Studio Recordings ever from Anwyl, has been Unleashed (CD version only). These Hyms of War were recorded at Hellion Studios in Boulder Colorado by Dave Otero in late June 2002, 38 Mins of Hyper-Fast, Sick, Crushing, Thrashing, Fucking, Plague Metal!! Featuring a brutal cover tracks of ENTOMBED'S "Supposed To Rot" (from the "Left Hand Path" LP) & And only on the Hella ultra limited LP bonus contains a cover of SODOM's "Persecution Mania" Cover art composed by the Internationally Worshiped DARK ARTS FRANCE, Grim Warring Layout By Fucking Maniac SHAXUL of Legion Of Death Records. Man I can't wait for AnwyL, they sound like a hella-goodtime. There is also AshdautaS, a blackmetal band out of California, featuring the leadership of Malefic, who has also released 3 albums from his solo side-project XasthuR, a down-keyed raw black offering that merges blackmetal with darkwave. All I could find of this band is a pic of their frontman, Malefic: I am interested to see what his main band AshdautaS sounds like. I'm into XasthuR's grainy, low-res blackwave; I guess I'll be finding out in a few hours what's up with the "real deal", so to speak. There will also be Skhiruss out of Nevada, I could not find anything about them online, they are that underground. Then there will be NightbringeR out of Colorado. I think they were formed in 2000. No info available on these freakish death cultists. Bring on the Night.

And of course there will be the usual array of totally balls-out fucking evil hate-mongering from the likes of our local brethren: IbeX ThronEObliterate Plague(My roommate painted this album cover)Here is a description of the Obliterate Plague: " Dark, Unholy, Skullfucking Black/Death/Thrash! This music is constructed to offend NOT PLEASE the average human! This E.P. was originally going to be a split with the band Wrath Ritual, but that band has since met it's demise and can no longer participate. So it will be released with 4 studio songs and a songs from the "Summoning Of The Dark Lords" Demo. Expect nothing but pure hatred! " They are my favorite local deathmetal band. Extreme. Terra NoiR will be playing (of course), Alex from Obliterate Plague is also in this pure blackmetal outfit. They will be sure to deliver the goods. In fact I have a feeling they may be playing instead of Obliterate -- but I couldn't find any pics of them online. The remaining bands will be: MindLockBeyond This FleshUSCHand Oh yeah, also: Necrophacus and Incendiant will be there tonight.

Malignant Inception is a Death Metal band formed in 1996, and have finally re-united (with a new Vocalist - our own darling friend Zakk Muffett). They just played their first "new" gig last week, and I missed it. So tonight I will make things right by catchin em live at last. Here is their album cover:

And I thought this thread would be a very dead one.
Thorny, you listen to much Hypocrisy? They did wonders with death metal. Here I go again with my rant of European bands, damn I am so disheartened with the direction American metal has gone. New good bands are so few and far between now.
On a Nightwish note, I just read that they actually covered a Megadeth song, I can't wait to hear their version of Symphony Of Destruction.

I haven't heard much of Hypocrisy. They're from Europe? I'll have to check em out.
Well we learned a couple things at the Nihilistic Death Fest. Mainly that Malefic (of XashtuR) was never in Ashdautas. He did an intro for them once, and for some reason, the rumors persisted that Ashdautas was his band. It seems he must be a strange sort of guy, alienated from the rest of the crowd. That's why he pursues a solo career as XashtuR, I guess.
Ashdautas was actually an interesting breed of blackmetal. Their singer wore a cape with hood that featured one of those "faceless" masks, so it was all black inside the hood. His vocal delivery was absolutely insane. No words of course -- just this high-pitched shrieking intensity that began as a wail and reached piercing heights of purity that were kinda scary. It really added to their overall effect. Meanwhile the music was typical speedmetal spiced with black thrash riffs, they weren't bad at all.
Opening was "IncendianT", and this guy I know by the name of Cliff was drumming for them. They were not bad, straight ahead punk sounding thrash metal.
Then out stepped my friend Zakk Muffett, new lead singer for MALIGNANT INCEPTION, and let me tell you: they were actually my favorite of the 3 "opening bands". [All the remaining bands were more serious blackmetal/ pure evil] As a matter of fact, what Malignant Inception did was more my style than the relentless battery of blackmetal to come afterward (provided by Mindlock, Ibex Throne, Ashdautas, and Skirrhus). Malignant had a keyboard player!! That was kickass -- it added a definite gothic theme to the music, and made for some really interesting segues that were far more "doom/gothic" sounding, in between their outright deathmetal style. Malignant Inception is not a blackmetal band, not by a long shot. I'm more into deathmetal anyhow - technical deathmetal like Decapitated, Suffocation, Cryptopsy, etc. But Malignant infuses a more "classic metal" approach to their shades of death and goth. I'm really looking forward to their new release, with Zakk on vocals. He did a fine job, our Zakk did! We're proud of him.
Anwyl ("plague metal" from Kansas) ended up cancelling on us. I was bummed too cuz I was all about hearing that shit.
The show was in this little Greek pub/cafe called the Atlantic Market Cafe - it was a venue found at the last minute, and I honestly don't think the owner -- who barely spoke English -- had the slightest clue as to what he was in for. Band after band of shrieking, intensifying, cacophony of mindshattering evil loudness! LoL. Poor guy was trying to kick everyone out by 11:30, and Skirrhus hadn't gone on yet - Ashdautas had just wrapped their set, leaving that one last band who drove 8 hrs from Nevada to play and finish out the evening. He was eventually paid off an additional $60 just to let the kids from NV play.
All in all it was a totally "mellow" evening, insofar as not utterly destroying the venue goes (or a riot breaking out). It was a fun night, with a pretty good turnout.

Porcupine Tree? I have never heard of that one. At The Gates is another good one. I was just listening to In Flames on the way to class. Clayman album. All good stuff.

Yeah, their first album is kicking my ass, on vinyl. "Lunar Strain"
Porcupine Tree is nowhere near to being classified as a death or black band. They are more proggy. Steve Wilson is the brain behind them. He appears on a couple of Opeth albums. (Damnation & Deliverance) You may not dig em, unless you'd like to check out a band that has more in common with Pink Floyd than they do with metal bands.

Well the closest I get to progressive is Sentenced and Amorphis, great bands from Finland. Both started out as death metal but moved on to a more progressive sound. I tried out Opeth but really don't care for them.

My dream is to see Samael live. Especially after hearing their latest cd. They just get better and better, no matter how impossible it may seem for them to get any better.
