straight-up: It tailbumps the new PJ respectfully, then shifts gears, swerves into the passing lane, and hauls ass in a fit of down-home cuntry fiddlin' that leaves Eddie & co diminishing in the rearviewmirror....

For the record, he's big into Sr. and early Jr. But he's never really heard III.

Out of his 3 country albums, the only one I don't got is his debut, "Risin' OUtlaw" (somethin to look forward to). But I did just recently pick up his 2nd, "Lovesick Broke & Driftin'", and it's killer too. But I gotta say: the new one takes the cake

NOT the album of the century: Is it pure shit? Or is it just not as good as Murray St. and Sonic Nurse? I'm seeing them tonight, but haven't heard the new album yet...kinda sucks b/c normally when I see them live they focus on the current release and don't hit many songs from their back catalog...it sucks b/c I won't know any of the songs tonight, but I still look forward to seeing them.

Paul, they're streaming it on their website, so you could probly give it a quick once-over before tonight.

straight-up: It tailbumps the new PJ respectfully, then shifts gears, swerves into the passing lane, and hauls ass in a fit of down-home cuntry fiddlin' that leaves Eddie & co diminishing in the rearviewmirror.... I have both albums, and think the new PJ is much better...I like the Hank album, but it's no Pearl Jam...I dunno, PJ just strikes a chord with me that few other bands do...and while I think the Hank cd is fun, at the end of the day he's no Eddie Vedder. I guess I just like the emotion I feel w/ Pearl Jam, and that emotion I don't feel w/ Hank. Its almost like he's trying too hard to be a rebel, fuck up, or whatever...I get the feeling that Pearl Jam is more sincere....don't take that is me dissing Hank though, like I said, I really enjoy his new album, I just think Avocado is better.

yeah I can see how you think that. In a certain respect, I agree. The PJ is more "sincere" . . . or serious, or whatever. In that sense it may be more timeless. From this perspective, it ain't difficult to see how PJ > Hank III.
My thing w/Hank III's "STraight To Hell" is, it's such a damned lively & fun album, and musically it is just top -notch, that I get a lot more "enjoyment" out of listening to it, I don't know. It doesn't make any sense, really. The pearl jam is a straight -up classic, it should be the champion here hands down. But the care -free attitude on hank's trumps it, somehow, for me. *shrugz* Know'm Say'n -?

Yep, Hank III = more fun than PJ, no doubt. PJ isn't really fun, sometimes I wish they'd lighten up a bit...but then again, that's what kinda makes them tick is Ed Vedd's ultra serious demeanor....
Anyway, I love good country and blue grass, but at the end of the day, I'm a rock guy. I like loud guitars, power chords, powerful drums, and thumping bass lines, and Avocado delivers the goods and then some.

Ain't that the truth ! I"m w/you on that (always been first & foremost a rocker). But Hank is certainly opening my ears to good country music . . .
