T -- the problem that I have with wankery is not that it's the product of "energy, passion and emotion," rather, it is that wankery consists of playing with no point, no emotion, just technique. Dude, I think you're confusing Zep with Van Halen here.

that was my truth, tell me yours. And be sure to give lots of details and explanation ... you know, WHY do you think the tune works, what do you disagree with in my analysis, etc.Ken, all the details I care to give are that it grabbed me the first time I heard it and it still does. You and me are alike in that I'm extremely picky about what I listen to also. Most music out today sux, as I'm sure you'll agree. But your pickiness and style of dissecting things is of a caliber I hope I never posses. If I dissected things as extremely as you, I'd probably find enough flaws on Madeleine Stowe's face to call her ugly. I know what I like too, but I tend to see you as much more limited than me. I like most everything you like, I bet, just not as much. You absolutely can't stand probably more than half of my top 10 favorite albums ever, music I absolutely can't grasp people not liking. But that's what's so incredibly cool about God, how He could make us all that unique and complex. ...I gave my top spot to Hail to the Thief. Actually you gave it to The Rising, dude.

Ken, with all due respect, how can you slam Plant's vocals and think Springsteen is the shit? My throat hurts just listening to that dude sing.

BTW I'd love to check out that book. Good reviews are meaningless. I'll post the info on it when I get home. And speaking of which, it's time for me to head on over to the postal office to send in my annual "I don't wanna file my taxes for a few more months" extension request. I think my accountant hates me. Or loves me. I can't decide. Ciao!

Mr. Thunk, I think you assuming a bit much. It's absolutely possible to be enjoy something and pick it to peices all at the same time. I do it all the time. We're just built different and that's cool but don't talk to Ken like he's lesser for enojying music his way, that's not cool. Yeah I know he speaks as though his opinion is the definitive opinion, I do too. Realize though he's not saying you can't have a different opinion.

I pick stuff apart and dissect it plenty myself at times, especially the stuff I borderline worship. Just not as much as Ken. But don't get the wrong impression here. I don't think Ken's "lesser", by any means, just built differently. Check out the new thread here in "Influential Music", Mantis. I'm about to put it up now.

Nah, wouldn't ever ignore you, buddy. Sorry for the hostility of the past few weeks. I got a LOT more peace in my life after Easter Sunday. It was hands down the best service I've ever been to in my life and renewed my faith like never before. I feel friendlier than usual today. Peace.

Hey, Riley I listened to Lateralus today with an ear towards Rushisms and there are alot. There are actually some parts that almost sound like Rush if your listening for it. I'd never noticed it before...just little parts you could cut out and paste on a Rush album and they really wouldn't sound out of place. Pretty cool really.

Ken, with all due respect, how can you slam Plant's vocals and think Springsteen is the shit? My throat hurts just listening to that dude sing. OK Kool, since I'm feeling like writing something right now ... I'll answer this over on that new board that Mr. T just put up ... though I would have called it something like "Review This!" or "Ask the Critic" -- that way, any of the more opiniated and vocal posters could be put on the spot, or could chime in with their answers.

Someone back there commented on good reviews being worthless. Yeah, thats the truth. To paraphrase Tolstoy: good reviews are all alike. But merciless savaging of your album by critics - they're all awesome in their own way.
I don't ever learn anything from a good review.
And thus, Layla makes every rock star hate her.
